1. It is SO freaking cold here and I'm in TEXAS!!!
Edited on Tue Nov-30-04 11:36 AM by Moonbeam_Starlight
Damn. The heat in my office isn't working too well, so I'm sitting here in my coat, with a blanket in my lap, and fingers almost too numb to type.

Hey, how YOU doin'? ;-)

My hands are cold. Where should I warm them?

On edit: I was in Arizona (northern) this summer. I thought it would be hot as hell. NOPE! We camped every night (long road trip of nine states in the west) and the night we stayed in Williams, Arizona it got down to 34 degrees. FUCKING A. It was JULY. We were totally zipped up in the sleeping bags and I kept reaching over to my daughter and she felt like a little ice cube. We didn't even bring warm clothes because we are total dorks and assumed anywhere in the west would be as hot as Texas in July. It sucked. But the Grand Canyon was cool. Except I'm terrified of heights. And I read a book in the bookstore about all the people who have died in the GC. Wow, that coffee kicked in, didn't it?

7. Same region I live in
Edited on Tue Nov-30-04 11:55 AM by ZombyWoof
Northern AZ is the southern edge of the Colorado Plateau, and the average elevation is close to 7000 feet, and no, we are NOT like Phoenix and those places in the Sonoran Desert 6000 feet lower and 100+ miles south of us. :-)

Next time you drive through Flagstaff, introduce yourself to the ZW! :D

10. Ok
It'll be a long-ass time, probably, though. Since we're off every summer, me and my best friend and her dad (who is also in education) and my daughter go on long camping trips. Summer 2005 will be the Smoky Mountains/Blue Ridge Mountains.

We went right through Flagstaff. Shopped at the Target there. Very green area.

The wind in Williams nearly took our tent out of the ground, stakes and all, so we took the rain tarp off of the top. Which made it colder.

BUT, that was one of the coolest nights because:

a) I saw my first ever shooting star

b) I kept waking up all night (cold will do that) and the moon was HUGE and full and I watched it move across the sky from east to west out the top of the tent.

Really neat night. So damn quiet.

Hey, Arizona--did it go barely red this year or what?

17. This county was 65% blue
It's Maricopa County (PHX) that carries the red vote. In fact, Clinton won the state in '96 because there were enough blue votes elsewhere to counter the "state of Maricopa" as we call it.

Flagstaff is about 55% blue. I like it here! :D

24. Northern Arizona and Southern Utah, beautiful and unique country.
Grand Canyon, Zion. Views so spectacular they'll take your breath away and knock you down on your knees.
Yeah, I'll bet it is cold there.Temps below freezing in the summertime aren't uncommon. One May I was at the North Rim and there were drifts five feet high; it was just opened. They close it in winter but leave the South Rim open.
People who've never been to the Canyon have an impression of a canyon carved out of the Sonoran desert. North Rim has elevations of almost 9,000 feet above at places.Aspen and blue spruce on the Rim and chapparal down by the Colorado.Go down to the river and you see the ages of the earth unfold. Six thousand years? I don't think so.
Well, I'd better snap out of this reverie; I'm here on the Southern Plains and I have things to do.

11. Yep, Winslow
If you were driving west towards Flagstaff.

That is the Winslow of "Take It Easy" fame, but Jackson Browne, who wrote the lyrics, was actually inspired to write that in the parking lot of a Wienerschnitzel on Route 66 in Flagstaff. (Now called Gary's Dog Haus).

The woman he spotted pulling out of the Wienerschnitzel was driving a Toyota pick-up and not a flatbed Ford. But that's artistic license for ya. ;-)

4. 2 Degrees at 6:30 AM in Southern Colorado
We kept the dogs inside last night - I let them out this morning and fed them outside. Then I ran out to the local Safeway to pick up a few itens before heading to work. When I saw that the time/temperature clock in front of the bank said it was only two degrees, I let the dogs back in.

13. It's perfect down here
about 70 degrees. The windows are open and the fans are spinning. A nice breeze is coming through the house.
It all makes up for the humidity, thunderstorms and hurricanes we get the rest of the year.
