1. Do traffic tickets count as
a criminal record? Because there are some towns that consider them to be misdemeanors, believe it or not!

I've gotten away with that crime numerous times!

13. No
It is not a crime. Just an infraction.

4. I'm not looking for confessions.
If I had one to make--which I may or may not--I would probably not offer it here.

But I forgot about all that pot I used to smoke. Technically a crime, but not to me.

37. In HS 1974ish, we got busted for Pot
A friend worked in a state park that closed at sundown. We all parked outside and he let us into the swimming pool room. We were all getting high and jamming on our guitars.

We heard a knock at the window and it was the state cops. A new law for under an ounce had gone into effect at midnight and it was 2am the next morning.

They took us to the station and called others for 4 hours. LOL...We were the first busted in NY under the new law. They gave us all tresspassing tickets and kept our stash.

I sent in my $25 fine from denver and that was that. I thought. My buddy thought it would be funny to tell my Dad.

Dad kinda blew it off but did ask me how it was to have to lose $25 when i was away.

7. I'm pretty sure the statute of limitations has run out
on the candybars, comic books and gum me and my little hoodlum buddies absconded with in our foolish youth.

Technically, I'm sure the wild adventure me and some of my fellow Scouts got up one summer would qualify as 'arson' by anyone other than the kind and generous group of Scoutmasters who pulled our sorry little asses out of the fire.

My days of underaged, college drinking are firmly in the past as well as the rite of passage that was passing around a doobie in high school.

I may have on occasion surpassed the posted speedlimit.

Oh yeah, I'm fierce. You may want to alert the local constabulary.

9. ok, where on the contiuum do you place....
1. being in a city park after hours;
2. skinny-dipping with a large group of friends under the moonlight; and
3. exotic sex acts?

just askin'

to be truthful, here is a clever crime I and some friens actually did: back when presidential campaigns actually spent money on lawn signs (before TV ads dominated) we'd go out and grab a bunch....not to dump or destroy them....to exchange them.
Thus people who went to sleep with Nixon signs in their yard woke up with Humphrey signs, and vice versa.
It was foolproof. If you dump a pile of signs in a ditch or set them on fire, the cops must come out and try to find out who did it.
But if somebody calls and yelps "They left a HUMPHREY sign in my yard!" the dispatcher will say "Oh, right. WE'll send someone right out. Uh-huh."
We know this because in our small town the trick generated more talk than if we HAD burned them. Oh, the outrage!

11. Does having pirated software on my computer count?
I'd say that's a good poll in itself. :freak:
And as my mom once said: the ultimate crime is not the one where no one is caught, it is the one that is never detected.

14. Everybody has committed a crime.
From speeding, walking home from a bar while drunk (public intox) to smoking underage (against the law in Ohio, anyway), downloading music off the internet, etc to actual "crimes," everyone has broken the law in one way or the other.

16. Why would anyone answer such a stupid question in a public forum
especially one that is certainly under scrutiny. Answer yes, even to the most minimal little crime (jaywalking?), and the freepers will wave a banner saying, "DU filled with criminals"...Gheesh, can't you find something better to poll about?

21. Yes and no.
Yes to Rockefeller and most of the govs of the 1960s through today. On the other hand, I would be willing to bet that most Americans consider recreational drug use to be unjustly a crime, so...no. I leave it up to your discretion.

23. Well, it IS against the law
therefore, doing them is a crime. So, I guess I did commit a crime. Multiple crimes. Too many to count, actually. Sheesh, I should be in jail. That's it, I'm turning myself in!

I have never been convicted of a crime, even a traffic ticket. I have drank before reaching the legal drinking age, smoked pot, and sped.

30. I think Ohio Dem is right.
Everybody has probably committed a crime. We've all knowingly or unknowingly crossed a line sketched out by our government to delineate acceptable from unacceptable public behavior. This is probably more a question about how you perceive your own actions, especially whether you feel you are perfectly law-abiding or have "gotten away" with a "crime."

35. Mrs. Miller? Yes. Class A Felony.
Usually though, the Judge reads the indictment...Downtown, Boots Are Made For Walking, Monday Monday...then sentences appropriately for Time Served and lets you go. I've heard of a case where an ironic coffee shop employee tried to claim Cruel And Unusual Punishment, listing Hard Day's Night as evidence, but I think that's still in Appeals.
