2. McCartney and Lennon
They did some awe-inspiring vocal harmonies in the old days. The composition wasn't that impressive, but the sound they got was incredible.

7. Hmmm
I hate to say it, but Christina Aguilera can actually sing.

Mariah Carey, who once was popular, could also sing.

Bono can really sing.

18. But I hope Charlotte Church is taking voice lessons
because the few times I heard her on TV, she was straining on her high notes, and that doesn't bode well for the future. You can get by with abusing your voice when you're really young, but eventually, it catches up with you.

13. Depends on your definition of popular.
Most people have heard of Billie Holiday, so one might say that she's popular, and a denial her vocal talents is a ticket to eternal damnation.

If you're talking about the Britney Spears ilk of "popular", then I'd still contend that most of them are decent singers, however not good enough that they should be making money singing.

35. Absolutely!
She studied music in Iceland since the age of six, was a folk star in her native country before the Pixies, and now has one of the best trained voices in popular music.

She is technically flawless, with emotional depth that has no comparison in modern music.

I heard her at the Civic Opera House in Chicago, and I can tell you from experience that she is no studio creation. Every note was dead on, exactly where she wanted it, with precision.

I'll accept not liking her music, but make no mistake, the woman can sing.

and she appeared in the music video for it on the Disney Channel. She looked very good there. It's amazing how trashy she has become since.
