He didn't just suck and fall out of the league, he went from a first round pick all the way to jail.
Bam Morris Barry Foster
I am sure there are others courtesy of the Rooney clan before they bought a brain.

18. Hey for all his flaws, the Steelers made the AFC championship game |
|
with Kordell. So even if he dragged the team down from where they shoulda been, he can't qualify as a "biggest bust" candidate.
Leaf and Boz, after being drafted at or near the top, didn't do squat.
Heath Shuler similar, but didn't get drafted quite so high.

31. (Donning Asbestos Underwear) In Kordell's defense |
|
this year is the first in the last 6 or 7 seasons the Steelers offensive line has actually looked prepared to play prior to game 7. For as long as I can remember, either they were unprepared mentally, physically, or just trying to get Kordell killed by making him a pocket QB without a line that could pass-block

10. Come on now...Palmer!? |
|
He's hardly been given a chance. If we're going to proclaim bust on quarterbacks during their first season of play, then other busts would include Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, Troy Aikman, Steve Young, etc. etc. None of these guys played well their first year, some didn't even make it into the starting lineup until a few years into their careers. Tim Couch and Akili Smith - total busts.

62. Palmer plays for the Bengals. |
|
Last year was technically his rookie year, but Jon Kitna took every single snap - Palmer never stepped foot in a regular season game last year. He was named starter this year, so he's basically a rookie. His numbers through 11 games: 216/372 (58.1%) for 2,313 yds, 13 TDs, 16 INTs with a passer rating of 70.1. Not great, but certainly not terrible. Plus, he's tied for 5th in the league in pass attempts - that's not what you want a rookie QB to do, but he's had to play catch-up a lot. The reason Roethlisberger does so well is he throws only about 15-20 passes a game, and the defense does the rest. Palmer does not have that luxury...yet.

Take a young, rookie quarterback and place the weight of an entire NFL team on his untried, college proven shoulders...with no time to adjust. I blame the Giants if he doesn't pan out. :hi:

Steelers picked him over Dan Marino in the 1983 draft, and he promptly wrecked his car and ended his career after a season or so. What made it really hurt is that the reason the Steelers dynasty ended is the inability to replace Terry Bradshaw. They never had a franchise QB since.
The Chief wanted to draft Marino, and never let the chance pass by to remind the young whippersnappers that veto'd him that "that Marino kid would have been a good choice".
