The Green Bay Packers are America's favorite team
"The Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys remain #1 and #2 respectively in the annual Harris Poll of the nation's favorite professional football teams. Both teams have seen their fan support receive a slight boost over the past year. For the Packers, its popularity has actually rebounded to that of its heyday in the late 1990s."

I do like Bret though. Great guy. Has been through a lot between his father's death and now his wife's breast cancer. Didn't he have another recent death in the family also? :(

23. His wife's brother
He was killed in an ATV accident on Brett's farm a couple of months ago. And thena couple of weeks ago, his mother took ill while on a book signing tour and had to be hospitalized. She's OK though.

It has been a very tough year for Brett personally.

18. Detroit was always the established Thanksgiving Day team.
They still are but after so many years as a perennial doormat the league needed a team that was competitive and had rivals in the northeast as a ratings draw for Thanksgiving.

22. NO NO NO NO NO
The facts are that NOBODY wanted to play on that day, so the NFL offered it up to whomever would do so, and said they could have it forever. Steelers and the Boys took 'em up on it.

Let the rest keep whining like the babies they are. :P

win or lose....basically because they aren't owned by some multi-millionaires or corporations....

but I did notice something strange about last night's game....Madden and Michaels damned near cannonized Farve and the Packers. They went out of their way to give Deanna Farve a lot of time....

This is just wierd.....so much praise...

14. I agree ewagner. I think they overdo with the praise on Brett at times.
Longwell never gets enough praise in my opinion. And it's funny...I remember in 1996 they weren't even talking about them as a Super Bowl contender until they had to. Although, if you listen to Chris Collinsworth, you get another picture. His hatred of Brett and the Packers is palpable.

34. I was gonna post on this last night, in fact
The whole Mrs. Favre thing...I really respect that Favre and his wife are working so hard to fight her cancer, really. But Jeebus! I felt like it was part football, part Lifetime movie last night. How many fucking times did I need to see her cheering in the stands, as if his touchdown throws--or Najeh's longer rushes--had some great significance to her battle against cancer.

It was completely absurd.

which can be a very lonely thing. I didn't care much for it when I lived in Chicago either.

But the amazing thing is, in WI the WOMEN really love football. In IL it always seemed to me that the women were just "faking it" for the sake of their husbands and boyfriends!

36. Minnesota will win the NFC North
They will beat the Bears this Sunday, the Packers will be whipped like a red-headed stepchild by the Eagles (who will win the NFC), and the Cheese-whizzers will never again claim first place for the rest of the season.

This is objective, because I am not a fan of either team. The Packers are in over their drunken heads. Have a beer, Brett!

41. Not in my house.
In fact the Cheesheads are the most hated with the Cowgirls a very close second.

I know the Bears suck this year, but if Grossman hadn't gotten hurt plus the fact that Urlacher is out as well, who knows what would have happened. After all, the Bears did beat the Cheeseheads in the second game of the season in Lambeau.

In fact I hate the Packers so much that in January 1998, when I was living in Ireland, I stayed up all night to watch Denver beat them in the Super Bowl. Boy was it was sweet getting phone calls from my brothers back in Chitown and laughing our asses off.

Americans don't like community owned franchises, they'd much prefer teams owned by billionares who screw their cities out of hundreds of millions of dollars to build new stadiums for them.

Edited on Tue Nov-30-04 05:19 PM by fishnfla
for several reasons:

1. They are one of the oldest franchises in the NFL. Lots of fans grew up with the Pack
2. They are the only community owned team in almost all professional sports.
3. Green Bay is small-town USA and very blue collar. I grew up there, believe me it aint nothing but the Packers and toilet paper.
4. Vince Lombardi and the birth of the NFL on national TV. The Packers of the 60's were the team. Lots of fans came from that time.
5. right now, Brett Favre
6. Everybody loves cheese

Hi there, Fish!
You wouldn't recognize Oneida St. anymore - it's growing beyond hwy 172! Bay Park Mall is land-locked, so all the new stores are moving south.

America's team? Only if they're winning.
