Surprisingly, ours is. I thought they would economize this year. We're going to this great Italian restaurant Thursday night.

Is your office economizing this year?

1. I hope not
I hate those things

I'd rather spend time with my family than my co-workers

2. Not a scrooge
I'm with you. The holiday parties I've been to all seemed designed to get people drunk and then somebody invariably embarrassed him/herself and became the subject to office gossip the next day ... Never had a good time at one.

4. Probably have MLK party instead.
It wasn't their original intent. But when they couldn't book anything in December the Holiday party was moved to January. So we call it the MLK Day party.

5. Yes
We used to have a dinner type party. Last year we tried something new, which was having a lunch catered at our facility. We get al longer lunch, and some damned good food. And, if we're lucky, a small profit-sharing check.

6. Can't-- I work for the gubmitt
...and we cannot seem to be endorsing any one religious tradition over another.

I dunno, maybe we'll get a Festivus pole out of it, but I doubt it.

8. We're having a charity drive instead
In the past, my department spent a couple grand on a holiday party for our approx. 700 people. This year, we're planning a charity drive instead - it will be a contest between the 11 divisions to see who can reach the per capita goal of donated goods first. We're only collecting items - no monetary donations. These will be items for the food bank, the domestic violence shelter, the free medical clinic, and even the animal shelter. :) The winning division will get to be the owner of some sort of trophy for a year - until next year's contest, and they get to choose a local charity to which we will donate $1000 or so. Cool, eh?

9. Yes, that is very cool!
What an awesome, totally socially responsible activity for a company to participate in! And what a great way to encourage people to see the season as a way to give, instead of a way to receive.

11. Bleagh -- yes. Every year. I have never gone and never will.
It's a big law firm, so I probably don't have to describe what the party is like. :puke:

today is the "mandatory" holiday luncheon. Everyone brings something, sign up on the web page. I'm gonna figure out how to skip out early and do something constructive, like get the tires rotated.

At a snooty club with mediocre food and a five-piece nondescript band.

16. If they are, I haven't heard about it.
Office socializing makes me very uncomfortable. There are only one or two people I work with I would care to see outside the office. I have perfectly pleasant working relationships with most here, but don't want to buy them presents or hear much about their families.

Just call me PagerScrooge
