Men Arrested for Dumping Dirt in a Forest
COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - Two men have been arrested for dumping dirt in a national forest. The Kootenai County Sheriff's Department said the men, who have not been publicly identified, were arrested at a garage in Coeur d'Alene where the dirt had been removed and the base apparently prepared for paving.

Deputy Robert Gomez said the U.S. Forest Service confirmed that it was illegal to dump anything, including dirt, on the federal land.

Gomez said he asked the two men about dumping dirt in the national forest "and they went off on a tirade about Mother Earth."

The deputy quoted the pair as saying they had taken "perfectly good dirt" from the garage area and dumped it under a big fir tree where they used rakes to spread the soil to make it look nice.

2. So let me guess.
What they were supposed to do with the dirt was call a licensed hauler and pay them to take it away to a landfill site?

Reason, logic, and common sense appear to be dead in large numbers of our people.

3. Thousands of tons of ash and chemicals are dumped everyday and
this is how it is done... I have witnessed it in Florida many many times... it is a shame what $$ allows people to get away with... yes that is a SFWMD vehicle in the foreground.

12. Why..... none other than the South Florida Water Management
District... "the protectors of the everglades" or so it says.

the hell scene goes on on hundreds of thousands of acres of cane each and every year. Seems to scare off the varmints... or toast them, depending on their luck.

9. I should clarify... these ashes and chemicals are "dumped" on the
wind... I have seen these smoke trails travelling across the horizon from Belle Glade all the way to the Miami area.... no kidding.

If you want to see how many tons of this crap is dispersed into the atmosphere from both the mills and the burning of the cane... here you go... www.scorecard.org enter a county... find out who does what and how much.

4. Might get in the way of the new logging roads.
The Oconee National Forest, to my southwest and in SC, has been opened to logging by the Bu$h Regime. The last day for comments was 11/15. It is now a done deal.

They will next be in my beautiful woods, the Natahayla National Forest and Pisgah National Forest. The Robber Barrons clear cut these mountains in the early 1900s. They hired bounty hunters to kill the animals. We are just now seeing black panthers again (see my post last night).

The Robber Barons are back, with a vengeance. We are fucked.

7. Normally I would roll my eyes at this
but one thing caught my attention: "they had taken "perfectly good dirt" from the garage area"

Might have been contaminated with oil.

14. Right. How many different chemicals are used in the automotive industry?
Oil, gasoline, lead, asbestos, antifreeze, hydrochloric acid, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, a/c fluid, rubber compounds, silicone compounds, iron alloys, aluminum alloys, etc, etc....

If it was "perfectly good dirt" why didn't they dump it in their vegetable garden?

16. Again, normally I would be agreeing with you
but there actually IS a huge movement and awareness campaign going on in forest and rangeland circles about alien species invasions. Especially weeds. If these guys dumped yard waste in a pristine area and it was full of burmuda grass or some foriegn weed seeds. It could actually be a bad thing.
