1. Damn straight
I will never forget seeing Hoffman approximately twenty years ago at U of F for the "Hoffman-Rubin debates". The moderator asked them what they thought their places were in society. Rubin said something unmemorable but Hoffman....ah!
(I am paraphrasing) "Society is like a bowl of chicken soup. If you leave it on the table too long it gets cold, the fat rises to the top, and a skin forms. It's no good for anyone unless someone comes along with a spoon to stir the soup, break up the fat, and keep it hot. That's me: I'm the guy with the spoon who stirs things up."
I long ago realized that this is one of the moments in my life I will carry with me to the grave, and occasionally, live up to.

2. I also saw him in a debate w/ Jerry Rubin when I was in college
(shortly before his death).

What really happened to him, was there ever any consensus? I am one of those people who never believes the "official story" when it comes to mysterious deaths of those on the left.

3. I went to elementary school with his kids
Amy and Andrew in the 1960s at a free school in Cambridge Massachusetts. I saw his ex wife Sheila a couple of months ago when I was visiting my Mom.
