My niece passed away early yesterday morning

Tori Duff, Mr. Penndems's niece and the flower girl at our wedding, passed away early Monday morning in Huntington, West Virginia from severe head and cardiovascular injuries she sustained in an all-terrain vehicle accident on November 23, 2004, at her grandparents' farm.

Victoria Lynn Duff was born on Friday, November 13th, 1992, in Morehead City, North Carolina. She was a fifth grade student who loved collecting stuffed animals, playing with her Barbies, watching "Shrek" and "The Princess Diaries" on her DVD player, beating her Aunt Dana (Penndems) at checkers and card games, and picking out Christmas and birthday presents at her favorite stores: Toys "R" Us and Pacific Sunwear. Tori's favorite subject in school was art, at which she was very adept.

"Miss Tori", as she was known by family members, had an effervescent personality, a curious and caring nature, a warm smile, an infectious giggle, and was the apple of every one of her relatives' eyes. When we were planning our wedding, she was our one - and ONLY - choice to be our flower girl. Her untimely death has left a tremendous void in the lives of all who loved her.

She leaves behind her parents; a brother in North Carolina and a half-brother in Bremerton, Washington; her maternal and paternal grandparents, a host of adoring aunts and uncles (including Penndems and Mr. Penndems). She also leaves behind two cousins in Georgia. Tori also had many, many friends who grieve with us, as well.

A memorial service will be held in West Virginia on Thursday, with a funeral service on Saturday in North Carolina. Our "Miss Tori" will be laid to rest about an eighth of a mile from her home in N.C. following the service.

She was caring
She wasn't spoiled (her parents saw to that)
She liked people and animals
She wasn't "sassy" (unless it was to her brother, who needled her about cleaning up her bedroom)
She was intelligent
She liked school (and didn't like to miss a day)
She wasn't selfish (she shared her toys, and sometimes her lunch, except if it was pizza or hamburgers)
She liked sweets
She and her mom were "best buds"
She was funny
She was a "ham" in front of a camera
She was treasured
She was liked
She was LOVED

And now, we'll never get to see her

Become an adolescent
Celebrate another birthday (or Thanksgiving or Christmas)
Go to the prom
Get her driver's license, and drive her first car
Graduate from high school
Become independent
Go to college
Start a career
Get married, and begin a family
Grow old gracefully

37. How sad, maybe in remembrance of her, you could become a "safety Ayatollah

" of sorts and lobby for a "Tori's Law" requiring a ATV safety course or something and maybe a maximum age a person should be before even thinking of being able to drive one of those things.
