Republicans = Jedi Knights, Democrats = Sith/Empire
That was a deep, piercing, groundbreaking discovery and analysis of a freeper on another non-political forum I post to.

And also that Republicans = Fellowship of the Ring (from LOTR), and Democrats = Sauron.

...

Why is it that the freepers always see themselves as the victim of a big powerful evil liberal army/plan for world domination?

1. Victim mentality.
They've had it forever.

2. Funny, I have a bumper sticker that says,
"Frodo failed; Bush has the Ring."

I think they have it backward.

3. I don't know how they can claim to be victims all the time
when they now control all three branches of the federal government. But they do -- they assume an aura of wounded, victimized indignation at the oppressive behavior of the liberals. But, Jeezus, come on! I want to know how the hell can we liberals can do any oppressing of anybody when we don't control anything?

4. It's easy -- most have practiced as evangelicals and fundamentalists
They spend a great deal of time deciding how persecuted they are. What's really interesting is that their faith is somewhat dependent on them being persecuted. That is, if they do not come under fire for their faith (at least in their own eyes), then they are not living a good enough life.

6. Memo to Freepers: YOU CONTROL EVERYTHING!
It would be easier to believe that they were the Jedi if they didn't control all three branches of government, most governorships, most state legislatures, most if not all government agencies, and most of the media.

Yet they do.

They are not some tiny rebel force facing against a big monolithic empire. They are the monolithic empire.

Goddamned Republicans; they bitch about not being able to get a job when they own every business in town.

7. The truth is more like GOP = Empire; Bush/Cheney = Vader/Palpatine
Edited on Wed Dec-01-04 12:40 AM by NEOBuckeye
The upcoming "Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith" is supposed to be about the rise of the Empire; how the Sith defeated the Jedi Knights and took control of the Republic. How eerily familiar the parallels are between the trans-galactic Republic and the United States at this time. Considering that Lucas had this all more or less fleshed out about 20 years ago, he could be seen as prophetic.

I liken the Dems to the Jedi Knights. The Jedi get their asses handed to them by the Sith (GOP?), and the survivors are scattered throughout the universe (world/blue states).

But eventually, there comes A New Hope... (Star Wars IV/Dems 2008?)

8. Sith...
I'd rather be Sith than a wussie Rebel. That's me of course, I'm certain others may be different.

9. Use the Farce!
^-- I just wanted to say that. ;-)

My real point is this:

...actually, we (as a country) really need to transcend this left vs right mentality. It's a terrible framework for meaningful dialogue, because it always pits one against the other.

I like how the Greens and Libertarians are working together in Ohio despite their philosophical differences. I think they're showing the way towards a more cooperative and open-minded future.
