iPods make great flashlights too! |
|
Edited on Wed Dec-01-04 02:55 AM by slor
I could not sleep after hearing our idiot prez earlier in Canada, and I really wanted to listen to "Vertigo" by U2 (it really makes me feel good for some reason). However, I did not want to wake my wife, so I broke out the iPod, and just noticed how bright the screen light is in our house, I was even able to grind coffee beans and make a pot, all by the light of my trusty iPod.

1. Yes! My iPod lights my way down the dark hall to bed most nights. |
|
If not the pod, then the Clie PDA. Just enough light to see by, not enough to wake the world.
I love tech.

Someday, I'll replace the battery.
Right now, the Bush enronomy makes even a $50 expense problematic.

7. I have an original 10 GB and not battery problems- batteries at like $30 |
|
I've never heard that they have a "bogus battery" but after a few years the battery will wear down some. Try resetting it if you didn't already
check around online- especially at ipodlounge.com
people change their ipod batteries all the time and I read it was about 30 bucks for the replacement. Seems worth it to me. I'll do that if my battery ever dies.

15. Mine won't recharge at all anymore |
|
the iPod only works when connected to my PowerBook.
I'll change the battery. List I looked, it was about $50.
Next time I have $50 extra (after the Second Great Republican Depression is over), I'll replace it.

9. Anyone here know how to work through iPod glitches? |
|
My son has an iPod and every time he plugs in his iPod it goes directly to iTunes and updates songs, but then freezes his computer. We have updated iTunes and downloaded iPod updates to no avail. I have been to Apple's web site/help boards, but haven't seen any solution. Has anyone here had this problem and fixed it? He can listen to his music, but can't download songs. I even downloaded iTunes so I could see if the same would happen on my laptop and it did. :( So, we know it's NOT the computer. He has a laptop also. Have any ideas on what I can do? I'm pretty computer illiterate so we need to keep things "basic", not technical. ;)

10. I had the same problem and fixed it |
|
It is the ipod- over time (like with a computer HD) the drive gets defragmented. The best thing to do is reset the ipod (I think it is holding down the center button and lower button at once but if you have a newer ipod I would check the apple site to find out how to reset).
I was VERY nervous to do this b/c with music on my ipod, even though I couldn't load new music on to it I could still listen to music.
After resetting the ipod I plugged it in and reloaded all the music again and it worked fine.
hope that helps!

I "think" he has done that, he knows how to reset it, but I don't know if he reset and then tried to immediately download songs. I'll relay your fix to him. Thanks! :hi:

12. he might also want to run disk utility on it too |
|
after he resets it he can plug it in and then stop itunes from launching so that songs don't load (have to be quick about that). Then, he can run disk utility on it to repair prefs just like on the hard drive. I think I did this as well for mine.
good luck!

16. there is also a preferences setting in iTunes |
|
where you can choose whether to automatically or manually update and synch your computer with your iPod.
Make sure this is set to manual. Then synch only when you want to.
