Brokaw Says Goodbye, Chokes Up on 'Today'
NEW YORK - Tom Brokaw briefly struggled to maintain his composure on NBC's "Today" show Wednesday morning, as he was being toasted by his staff on his last day as "NBC Nightly News" anchor.

"It's been a great, great ... privilege," Brokaw said before becoming visibly overcome with emotion. "I didn't think I was going to do that."

Hosts Katie Couric and Matt Lauer clinked champagne flutes with Brokaw, who was surrounded by several staff members.

7. I agree he hasn't been great lately
But I have the feeling that we'll be nostalgic for him and Rather fairly quickly.

14. Only A Little Harsh? I Think It's An Idiotic Thing To Say...
and the answer to your question is "NO!"... It would take a great deal of effort to do so.

20. Well, sorry if you're all so hurt
because I couldn't care less about Brokaw. He is one of the media whores who sold us war like it was an upcoming Superbowl game. he is one of the journalists who refuses to reveal the truth.

I believe a journalist has a higher calling than merely looking pretty and covering his own ass. I'm out there every day doing HIS job, trying to show folks THE TRUTH and I'm not making six figures, baby. I'm taking the heat, taking the risk, when cowards like Brokaw refuse. How else SHOULD I feel?

I come here to vent, not to make nice with sellouts. Don't like it? Put me on ignore!

21. Oh Brother!
:eyes:

Why should I put someone on ignore just because I disagree with their unreasonable, knee-jerk, hypersensitive, over-reactive diatribe?

My disagreement with the views expressed in your rant DOES NOT mean that I'm "hurt". Why in the world would you think something like that? You haven't hurt me.

3. Now why the HECK is he leaving?
Is it the goal of the media to get rid of all those who have some respect? or is he retiring?

9. He is retiring.
He made the decision two years ago, but wanted to stay through the '04 election.

Brian Williams is replacing him.

What a phony sleaze...I couldn't even watch his pomposity for five minutes before shutting it down.

15. Yep, I remember him rallying for the war on Letterman
he had some bull story about a big wig in Iraq telling him under his breath to please support killing Sadam. He also touts a lot of repugs in his Greatest Generation book - including Schultz (sp - Sec of State during Raygun)

Brokaw has seemed physically unstable to be for awhile now. Does he have Parkinsons?
