My Grandma died lastnight |
|
Middle of the night, went in her sleep.
She was 84 years old. It's hardest on my mom, more than anybody else.
This was coming on for a while...been waiting for it for about 2 years now. She'd been getting so weak.
She's in a MUCH better place today than she was yesterday.

It's hard to let go, and you have my sympathy. My own grandmother who is more like a mother is 86, and is in pretty good shape, but it's going to be hard, so, I have some idea of what your family is going through. My condolences.

Losing my grandma was the toughest thing to happen to me! My thoughts are with you!
I have been absent this past week because my brother-in-law passed away. The Mods knew it, but I didn't have time to post here because I needed to get from Indy to Ytown to pick up the parents and rip down to Virginia to be with my sister and nephew. I think of you every time I drive thru Akron!!!
All good karma to you, my friend. Celebrate her life! Gramdma's are a wonderful gift!!!

Condolences, AWD to you and your family for your loss |
|
Be strong for your mother; let her know how much you loved your Grandma - it will help her and you.
What a source of great pride and happiness for your Grandma that you take such an active interest in your community and country.
I believe she is in a better place and knows that you are trying to better THIS place.

I don't think she had any clue about the activism I was taking part in...she didn't have much recognition left. She often asked the same question numerous times in an hour.
But right now, the Big Guy is at her side showing her everything her earthly presence was missing.

That's what grandmothers are. I remembered reading this group of thoughts written by eight-year-olds:
What is a grandmother? ( taken from papers written by a class of 8 year olds)
A grandmother is a lady who has no little children of her own. She likes other peoples.
A grandfather is a man grandmother.
Grandmothers don't have to do anything except be there when we come to see them.
They are so old they shouldn't play hard or run. It is good if they drive us to the store and have lots of quarters for us.
When they take us for walks, they slow down past things like pretty leaves and caterpillars.
They show us and talk to us about the color of the flowers and also don't step on "cracks." They don't say, "Hurry up."
Usually grandmothers are fat, but not too fat to tie your shoes.
They wear glasses and funny underwear. They can take their teeth and gums out.
Grandmothers don't have to be smart. They have to answer questions like "why isn't God married?" and "How come dogs chase cats?".
When they read to us, they don't skip. They don't mind if we ask for the same story over again.hey know we should have snack-time before bedtime and they say prayers with us every time, and kiss us even when we've acted bad.
Everybody should try to have a grandmother, especially if you don't have television, because they are the only grown ups who like to spend time with us.

To pass in ones sleep, is a blessing, of sorts.
There is not too much I can say...I've spent my entire life around death of one type or another.
But a couple of years ago, I recall seeing a small pumpkin at one of those instant menmorials that pop up at tragedies. A message was written in a small childs hand with a black marker. It said:
"When you get to Heaven, please say hello to my Daddy".
May your G'ma say hello to all of those who have gone on before us.

It sounds like you're at peace with her passing. Sometimes, when they're old and getting feeble, the actual death itself can be a blessing. It was a blessing when both of my grandmothers died.
