4. I'm a Chaplin man
I think he's the greatest genius in the history of film, so maybe I'm biased! But yeah, City Lights is my favorite film, as well.

5. Keaton
Very underappreciated -- his films contained real feeling, where Chaplin I always felt was trying just a bit too hard and came off as a caricature. Not that I don't like Chaplin, but I prefer Keaton.

10. Those eyes ...
If ever there were a PERFECT silent star, it was him. He could just look at you and make you laugh or cry. (sigh)

11. Like 'em both, but Chaplin
"The Great Dictator" is one of the best movies of all time in my opinion, and he did the great music for it as well.

BTW, Stan Laurel was Chaplin's understudy at one time.

16. I haven't seen the Buster Keaton movies since i was a kid -
they had a Silent Clowns film series Saturday mornings at the 8th Street Playhouse in NYC, and back then Keaton was may favorite- instantly endearing to me. But the Chaplin films are just more accessible- in fact I own the whole collection, so I've seen them many time over the years and City Lights, Modern Times, The Gold Rush-- they get better with every viewing. Chaplin was amazing. So was Paulette Goddard.

19. Keaton, without question.
Chaplin went way too far into pathos for my liking.
