I just saw Alexander and it Bombed!
I sooo wanted it to be good. There was so much potential in the story, but it fell totally short. Even the Battle scenes were crappy

3. Has ANY Collin Farrell movie that's exceeded expectations?
And I know that he didn't write or direct it, but it's still rather telling. It's almost as if he takes all the movies with hit potential, that other big-time actors know for some reason are flawed.

And yet, Holloywood wants him to be a mega star SOOOO badly.

22. I think Phone Booth did.
That's about it, really.

The thing about Farrell is that he tends to be attached to good ideas that are poorly executed. Examples: Alexander and Daredevil (even though I loved his performance in Daredevil).

4. Just from the trailor....
I ask myself....."What is it with that bad bleached hair on Colin"? Was it necessary???? I can't understand why Alexander would even be blonde??????

11. He wasn't. Tapestry and mosaics, and even coins, show a man...
who was quite unattractive. However, the fact that he was the world's "first rock star" (meaning that he was the first person historians truly converted to superstar status) has resulted in him being wrongly portrayed as a stud.

He had curly black hair and a huge nose, and he was short and stocky. He was blue-eyed, though, and even today there are enclaves of people in AFrica and the Middle East with blue eyes who are said to be his descendants.

His life story is very fascinating--I think that's why he's such a historical superstar.

:-)

I would love to see a more realistic portrayal of Alexander's story.

15. Here are some ancient images of what he REALLY looked like:
Here is an ancient contemporary mosaic of Alexander on Bucephalus, his horse. He's on the left.

Nice to see some reality in this increasingly Hollywood-ized world of history.

for pain and suffering.......

The History Channel has a great documentary on Alexander. Maybe you can get a DVD or video copy and share it with the class.

If I can find the Alexander film by Disc., I will certainly purchase it.

Thanks for suggesting that. :-)

I give it 2 and half stars.

I wouldn't follow him into battle if he was the leader.

18. Tell me if what I am thinking is right or wrong...
I saw the trailer. It looked like a Macedonianized version of Mel Gibson's William Wallace.

I loved Braveheart...I use it in my class. Is this a cheap imitation of Braveheart, only with Alexander the Great staring and men on elephant-back?

21. My thoughts on the movie
Edited on Wed Dec-01-04 07:57 PM by Quetzal
Most of the reviews by the Users over at the Yahoo movies page are grounded in homophobia. Stone does not back down at all from Alexander's bisexuality.

That being said, the speeches that Alexander (Colin Farrell) gives to his army should belong on daytime soap operas. Alexander definetly lacks the passion and determination to take over the known world.

At least in Braveheart, the audience could definetly identify with aims of William Wallace.
