Awww. You guys are the greatest! Seriously!!
I heard that you were all chipping in to get me a Lexus for Christmas. How very sweet! I prefer black cars, but whatever you can get will be fine. Just be sure to put a big bow on it and park it in the driveway. I'll be so grateful when I wake up Christmas morn and see it sitting out there. You're just so awesome! :loveya:

They've resurrected those "Lexus in the driveway" commercials again. Is it me, or do people actually gift each other with Lexuses? Who does this?

15. begin trans. Why do you think we are all tightwads?
when I go to Edinburgh I always buy something to take back home with me. I think you are just a well dressed troll with a fancy accent. I'm just asking these rhetorical questions to see what you'll do.

trans ends

If you do press the alert button I'll understand. It's not funny having to guess exactly what someone might be saying if one is not conversant with the language being used to post what might be derogatory comments. Those caveats notwithstanding, we are not all tightwads...

Regards from northern Scotland.

McKenzie

16. Awww, I know you aren't all tightwads.
I apologize for perpetuating cultural stereotypes, albeit in a tough-in-cheek way. And I'm not a well dressed troll. I'm actually a very badly dressed troll.

12. My spoiled rotten cousin
My uncle's family mooched off my grandmother their entire lives. My mom committed the unforgivable sin of marrying a man from another city and moving 150 miles away, so our entire family became personas non gratis. My uncle's family stayed in the little rural town where they grew up, so my grandmother literally paid for or gave my uncle's family everything they owned, including their house, their clothing, their vacations, their education and all of their expenses. My uncle wasn't a deadbeat either, he was a successful insurance agent.

So, given how flush with extra cash they were, not having to pay for a damn thing ever, when my cousin turned 16, they got her a brand new Camero. That was as good as any Lexus as far as she was concerned. Her birthday was on Christmas day, so my aunt and uncle always said she "deserved" better and bigger presents, because she had to "share" her birthday with everyone else, not to mention baby Jesus.

Yes, she turned out to be a raving bitch. And these are the type of people who get each other Lexi for surprise Christmas gifts.

17. one thing people shouldn't do...
Is use a noun like "gift" as a verb. That is why the word "give" exists.

'Is it me, or do people actually give each other Lexuses?' is much simpler and far more graceful.

Yes, I am a language snot.

19. My father is an electrician
He got his training from four years in the Navy. My mother was a stay at home mom ("was" as in all the children are grown and she works now). My dad worked 60 hours a week while I was growing up in order to pay the bills and take care of my three siblings and me. My parents kept an old mini-van for the kids to drive when we came of age (it was old enough that if one of us crashed it, it wouldn't be any big deal). My first car was a very used Oldsmobile Delta '88 that I bought myself.

My twin brother put himself through technical college and also works as an electrician in one of the local mills. My younger brother is in the Navy. I am in the Air Force. My sister is finishing up her bachelor's degree in biochemistry at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities, paying for college through loans and scholarships earned from academic acheivement.

So yeah, my life is a lot like a John Mellencamp song. The culture of even driving a Lexus is completely alien to me.
