Man Impaled by 6-Inch Hook Through Skull
SAN ANTONIO - A 6-inch hook was embedded in a man's skull in an accident at a heavy equipment dealership Thursday, but he was in stable condition despite still having a portion of the hook in his head, authorities said.

Rescuers needed about two hours to free the hook from the front-end loader it had been attached to at Holt Caterpillar, then flew the man to University Hospital. Rescue workers said the man was conscious and talking.

Holt is the largest U.S. Caterpillar equipment dealer and sells, rents, leases and services new and used Caterpillar equipment, engines and generator sets in stores stretching from the Rio Grande to the Red River, many located along the Interstate 35 corridor.

The men's identity wasn't released.

4. I had one in my Head and was rushed to the hospital.
The doctors finally got it out and aside from some minor personality changes, once-in-awhile, it's not to bad and doesn't really cause me any trouble, You no-good-sons-a-bitches...you know I hate all you bastards....why don't to kiss my royal ass...or I could buy everybody a drink, if that's what you all want..I'd do anything for you wonderful folks even though I'd like to shove a two by four up all of your butts...God!..I love you people...

6. Ripley's Believe-it-or-Not Museum in Atlantic City
Has a lifesize replica of some guy who had the long end of a crowbar impaled in through one of his eyeballs and out the back of his skull. The caption says that the man "survived" -- and just kind of leaves it at that...

7. Phineas Gage?
He was a railroad worker in the 1800's who got impaled through the skull with a metal rod. He did survive, but the accident turned him from a friendly, quiet guy into an impulsive, animalistic Mr. Hyde type. His case, along with some experiments done on chipanzees by some whose name escapes me at the moment, pretty much made medicine aware of how brain damage can cause changes in personality, which led to the unfortunate practice of psychosurgery in the early 20th century.
