Why was Mark Twain in Carnivale? (HBO's Carnivale Thread) |
|
Did anyone else notice the phot of the Young Twain in the scrap book by Ben's mother? I'm guessing it's a homage, but to Twain's later, cynical writings which attacked organized religions, or his earlier, more playful writing? What's your guess?
Also, Who or what is management? Is he really in Samson's trailor behind the curtain?
If you haven't seen Carnivale, this was show two out of twelve. Well worth a look for Lynch, Kubrick and Fellini fans... Kind of a depression era Lord of the Rings rewritten by Vonnegut.

the show doesn't remind me of Lynch so much as the too-short lived "American Gothic" series with Gary Cole.
dunno 'bout the Twain.

4. That was a good show... And yes, too short lived. |
|
The surreality of characters coupled with the dream sequences are what make me think of a Lynch influence (Blue velvet and Twin Peaks).

Same guy from TP, too.
I loved the Sheriff in AG. He was supposed to be a bad guy, but he reminded me more of a cranky grandfather.

It's slow-moving, but weird and therefore it manages to hold my interest. Of course, I watch it on HBO East, which makes it on at 6 pm here. If I saw it much later, it might not keep me awake, to be honest!
Admit that I'm interested to see the connection between Ben and Justin, whatever it may be.

development for a change. Kind of nice to see. I think it's going to crank up a notch next week when they put Ben on stage and the healing (with its costs) starts taking place.

Clea Duvall's been a bit of disappointment thus far, but maybe her acting skills will pick up in a few episodes ;-). Otherwise, I'm loving it... looking forward to episode 3 very much.
