Poll question: I Went Looking For A PT Job At The Mall, Which Place Sounds Best?
I just got back from the mall, looking for some part time work - mostly weekends, maybe the occasional weeknight. These are the places I hit that were hiring...

The Sharper Image - looking for a salesperson.
Things Remembered- a kinda nicknack store, looking for sales help.
Everything For Less - a sorta toy store/99-cent store, i don't know what they're looking for.
Sam Goody - the music store - sales help.
Clothes Horse - a teenage girl clothing store, looking for a stock person.

At this point, I'm probably lucky to get whatever comes along. But if you had your choice, what would you choose?

1. I voted "clothes horse" because it's a stock job
I've worked retail during the holidays. IMO it's better on the stress level to stay away from having to deal with the public.

2. I'd skip the Sharper Image
Too easy to get caught up in the hype of their crap and spend your check, making your PT work pointless.

3. Here's my take:
First choice: Sam Goody - get employee discount on music/vids if you want certain stuff, especially if shopping for Xmas.

Second choice: Sharper Image - probably get a better class of customer; might be less nasty to you during the holidays.

Perv's choice: Clothes Horse - if you like watching young girls; if you like really young girls, just take yourself out of the gene pool, please

Things remembered: Hmm, avoid, might have to acquire a skill (engraving, but isn't it mechanized?)

5. clothes horse is a stock position
if they were looking for sales i would have walked right on by. I figured I would probably not be mingling with the teeniboppers too much. Plus they play really awful girly music around the clock and if there's one thing more irritating than christmas music its teenibopper music.

9. I meant that, even as a stock person,
a male would immediately be considered a perv for working in a "teen girl" store.

At best, a male would be looked upon as suspicious, even if you weren't on the sales floor.

Unless that's the only one offered, I'd avoid the mess.

4. No book store?

You get discounts on the latest books, plus you get to meet literate, intelligent women.

Otherwise, I'm with Bertha: take the behind-the-scenes, no-sales-no-public stock job.

7. i worked at sam goody once.....
.... I couldnt make it two full weeks there.

I slightly knew what i was getting in to, but it was still a record store , so how bad could it be? It was THE most corporate job I have ever had. They have this card there called "Replay" which you HAVE to hawk to EVERY purchase, and it costs almost 20 bucks. Which in this economy, wasnt very easy to accomplish. So they freaked out on me multiple times for not meeting my quota of ten or so a day.

Last straw was being talked shit to on St Pattys day, I quit immediately.

Plus, everything in The Sharper Image is badass.....

11. Victorias Secret
My buddy went in there half-joking and applied for a job. He was told by the manager that not many guys applied there and they would love to have him do their stocking and tagging. He said it was surreal as he was the only guy working at this loc and he got a lot of attention.

I should mention though, that he is a really good guy and wouldn't in any way cheat on his girlfriend. He told me, "these girls know I'm not looking to screw them so its a very relaxed environment... Its like working in the catalog."
