I was trying to estimate the protein grams in my cup of hot and sour soup.
I think it's pretty high.

2. It's tofu - the Mandarin Chinese word for landfill - who really cares. |
|
I understand people like it, so I hope I haven't insulted you.

8. Mandarin Chinese is redundant |

Edited on Fri Dec-03-04 02:01 PM by sir_captain
thought it appears you don't know much about the Chinese, so this is hardly surprising... Not to mention that tofu is a cantonese word, not mandarin. In Mandarin, it would be 'dofu'
And seriously, it's your loss if you don't like bean curd...great stuff.

in all seriousness, though, if you're going to make a joke about another culture, you should at the very least get the terms right, you know? it's like you said that something was the american english language word...it just sounds dumb. i won't fault you for not knowing that tofu isn't a mandarin word...that's a bit trickier.

15. See, here's the thing. |
|
No one cares (except you and maybe some actual Mandarins) that tofu isn't a mandarin word. It was a poor attempt at humor.
The joke was that for most of non-tofu-eating America, tofu's main use should be landfill. I feel the same way about eggplant for that matter.
Using an exotic (and keep in mind for a lot of bush supporters, cajun pork rinds are exotic) language such as Mandarin only adds to the humor.
By the way, are you an engineer?

16. Ah, you see, I thought a joke was supposed to be funny... |
|
the fact that you think Mandarin is an "exotic" language demonstrates the problem with your material. Or maybe you don't think it's exotic but that Bush supporters do, and it's all part of your "joke." I certainly can't tell...
But yeah, if the issue here is that you're just not funny, I can live with that.
