Top10 British Speeding Excuses:
There has been a great tradition of storytelling in Northumbria ever since the Anglo-Saxon poets, and according to local traffic police it is getting better than ever.
Speeding motorists in the region have provided a series of spectacular excuses in the last year, including fears of alien abduction and a mercy dash with a dying hamster.

A top 10 list of reasons for breaking the limit also includes a claim that an aircraft heading for Newcastle airport triggered the camera. Another driver blamed wind vibration from a surfboard on the roofrack for misleading the speed trap.
