Vanity: If they could see me now.. (25,000 post should I be embarrassed?) |
|
For those treated as "newbies" now... if you get seriously addicted - and have periods of time with bouts of deadlines and procrastination (that was my pattern - write for 8-12 hours for work - with intermittent DU periods.. just forget sleep...) suddenly those newbie posts grow, and grow, and grow.
My deepest appreciation to this community that has kept me aware of unfolding current events (especially to those who bring new to lbn - my ALWAYS read forum, and editorials), that keeps me analytical and aware (discussions on GD and GDP)... and has kept my humor and human interest alive through the lounge.
We were all 'low post counters' or newbies at one point...
we were all recognized as 'part of the community' at some point... (for me, the recognition came after 1,000 posts when Uly (now a good du friend) began to respond to my posts not just for the posts... but also began to respond to me (salin) as a poster (that is, some recognized me as a DU 'persona').
And I (not using "we" because I can only speak on my behalf on this point) have a greater understanding and perspective on a slew of issues due to the active discussions.
Thank you DU... for giving me space to post so many times.

don't know about the elevating part (but thanks for the compliment)... but the level of discourse (at least issue wise) of mine has been raised du(e) to duers like you, Zomby... and I am glad that the corner (and kid chairds) are cyber-etic... and thus don't intefere with you real time endeavors that make us all proud!
and... back atcha :loveya:

Just kidding, friend. I understand exactly what you mean by addicted. Yet, I usually take some time off if I get too "into" DU. Keeps me sane to get away from the world.

10. Isn't that the truth.... |
|
scary thing is - that I have posted much less frequently in the past 6 months... meaning that my post rate (from the first week of January 2002) was very high (eg less "real world" time) for quite some time before taking breathers for the 'real world'.

Congrats on 25000mK posts!
And let me just say, to the newbies, "Until you hit 1,000 posts, I consider you a useless freeper infiltrator." In fact, I don't think anyone should be allowed to post until they're in the 1,000 post level.

I'm glad you figured it out!

I remember when we had a contest to see who would hit 20,000 first...then...well....wanna race to 50K?
Thanks for ALL your wonderful posts and especially the big projects we have worked on like ENERGY, Cheney, and the Defense Policy Board threads. You are one of the sharpest tools in the cyber shed. :yourock:

on 50K too much wisdom and speedy response against which I would have to compete! :D
Ya, it has been fun to just play concerned policy wonk in order to build "cover"... hehe
None of those discussions would ever have gotten so far without so many bright and committed Duers participating. So many would say "I am not an expert... but am willing to participate/dig/read/post/discuss"... and the reality is that we built some expertise along the way.
If I recall - a few of those discussions were started, to begin with, due to discussions with a certain duer *ahem* who rather inspired the 'inquiry'...
*mutual appreciation society alert!*

archives... always glad to see the news you bring to the forum! I no longer have the ability to stay on top of that front... but back in the day - "new" items could stay at the top for an hour or more... with no new stuff coming in...drove me nuts (patience, not my strong suit) which is why, for a point in time, I was pushed to become a "news hound" myself... prowling for new stories and bringing them to lbn. Thanks for all that you do keph! :hi: :loveya:

Long time... it is so good to see you!
Did you see that the hometown just fired your former coach (who you all once fired...) Knew some folks around the athletic administration... they found him quite demanding and obnoxious from the outset... but wanted to believe that he could work miracles... but instead things kept going from bad to worse...
I always love seeing and reading you! You add heart and humour to this place!

suddenly the milestone (birthday) loses a wee bit of the sheen... imagine how much other stuff I could get done if I do it rather than post... ah - but it is a form of relaxation/recreation (so salin rationalizes to salin's self...)

that really touched me. Thank you so much for sharing your response to the thread. I used to be able to be at DU much more so than I am able to be these days... so sometimes I almost feel like a "newbie" again (especially in the lounge, where a community keeps forming and shifting depending on comings and goings)... (how is that for a non-sequitor?!) Indeed I have grown tremendously as a result of participating on DU... I can only hope that the conversations have stretched other participants as well :D :hi:
