4. Yeah, but he's hardly a pop star anymore.
Edited on Sat Dec-04-04 02:54 AM by UdoKier
Unless you count the former republics of the Soviet Union, and his star has even dimmed considerably there.

By my reckoning, it's been over a decade since he had even a lukewarm hit.

He's sadly out of touch musically. Not only with today's music, but he doesn't even seem able to hit that late 70's groove he used to do so well.

I liked him a lot before he got whiter than me...

automatic,systematic,
Full of color self contained,
Tuned and gentle to your vibes.
Captivating, stimulating,
She's such a sexy lady,
Filled with space-age design

She's movin, she's groovin
Dancin until the music stops now, yeah
Rhythematic, acrobatic
She's a dynamite attraction
At the drop of a coin she comes alive, yeah
She knows what she's doin, she's super bad now,
She's geared to really blow your mind

Dancin, Dancin, Dancin!
She's a dancin machine

Move it baby

27. Oh I know J5 from the beginning I'm saying I can't believe all the other
posters thinking that Thriller or anything after that was the best. Best selling, maybe... but ... I'm sorry, what crap compared to anything that came before, but I'm guessing a lot of em are to young to know the early stuff (and the cartoon!) , Most of thriller reminds me of overproduced like Phil Collins- Su su sudio!! LOL. I will never understand the appeal. I guess you had to be a kid when it came out to get it. I know it was very mainstream, it's just weird he seemed more passionate as a kid than he does on thriller.
Did you get to hear Mama's Pearl? That song always gets me jumping!

12. Nothing against his "Thriller" hits, but...
They all just seemed so "pop", and had so little of the groove that was so great on his earlier records. I never understood why the Thriller album was so unbelievably popular. I did like PYT, because it had that earlier disco groove thing going on.

Billie Jean and Beat It, by far the most popular songs on the record, didn't do much for me. I guess I have weird taste.

His dancing and performances were very good during that period though.

I did like the big choreographed zombie dance in "Thriller". That was fun.

29. Yes, PYT was the last good song... after that he just started to sound
bland and generic, I think it must have been left over from "Off the Wall" .
I remember loving Off the Wall and hearing Thriller and saying WTF? Nobody I know in NYC even bought that album. Everybody thought it was crap! Except for PYT.

15. I'm old enough to remember him with J5; and they did the
best version of "Never Can Say Goodbye" of anyone.

And that INCLUDES Isaac Hayes, which was incredible too.

22. What the hell were you thinking when you wrote that poll list?
The only song I even heard of that you listed was Rock With You. Where are his extremely popular hits? Where are the Thriller songs, like Beat It, Billy Jean, and Thriller? Where are the other hits like Bad and Man in the Mirror? Not even Smooth Criminal? No offence, but your poll options were the worst in the history of polling. :)

Ben, the two of us need look no more
We both found what we were looking for
With a friend to call my own
I’ll never be alone
And you my friend will see
You’ve got a friend in me
(you’ve got a friend in me)

Eerily prescient.
