Is Target REALLY better than Wal-Mart?
If one judges a company based upon which party it donates to then one can only conclude that Target is no better than Wal-Mart...

Choose the blue is a website that aims to help people support those companies who do not donate overwhelmingly to the pugs....Click here to see what percentage of Target's political donations go to the pugs.

After seeing this information I wish there was a Costco closer to where I live. The only one in St Louis County is in South County and it's at least a two hour bus ride from where I live.

1. in terms of business practices it is better
although i don't like them donating to Republicans by such large percentage.

3. So Target may not contribute the millions to the pugs that
Wal-Mart does..they are not nearly as big as Wally world. They aim to be though. I think they are good at projecting an image of being a more compassionate and upscale version of Wal-Mart but it's all marketing.

What's the average wage of a cashier at Target versus that of a Wal-Mart employee?

16. A cashier at Target makes $6.25 an hour
As a member of their overnight flow-team (meaning the people who stock the shelves after the store closes) I made $8.25 both last Xmas and when I worked for them seasonally in 1998.

Aldi's is better, they pay their checkers $11.81 to start. The thing is their stores are smaller and they have off name merchandise, but I think alot of their stuff is BETTER than the name brands anyway (their ranch dressing is to die for!)

4. I too think Target is better
or rather the lesser of the evils. We have a Costco which is right next to Target and I think we will try to shop there now that we know that they are good to their employees. But, Target is good to its employees and the community and I think it has good brands. Please let me know if I am mistaken.

6. In Las Vegas we have 24-hour Wal-Marts
To me the stores are like third-world outdoor markets shoved into airplane hangars. It's like there are constantly palettes of merchandise blocking the aisles, that nobody has found room for and the display items have often been vandalized or mistreated.

Target is neat, orderly, and has much better merchandise for comparable prices.

11. One early reason for me shopping at Target over Wallymart
was the stores. Target is clean and neat and Wallymart is cheap flea market.

7. No
Not enough difference to count.

Shop local merchants or buy online.

8. in pure dollars, Walmart pumps way more into political parties/candidates
and with a higher percent to pukes. so, Target is the 'lesser of two evils' i guess.

But Target does have pretty nice stores, plus they aren't overcrowded where i live.

10. IMO: Some areas but not overall
Target stores are more organized as feel a little more upscale that Wal-Mart. But they don't have the variety of merchendise that Wal-Mart has.
Wal-Mart is wall to wall floor to ceiling, asshole to asshole merchendise. Where at Taget you have wide iles and can see from the front to the back of the store. I can not find many of the product lines I need in Target.
Comfort and appeal, Target wins hands down, they have a nice store
Shopping for what I need day to day, Wal-Mart runs away with it, no doubt.
Sorry.

18. Not to mention lines.
I don't think I've ever waited more than five minutes in line at Target. When I used to go to Walmart on occasion, I'd wait 20 minutes almost every time. It's just a nicer place and the prices are still good. Walmart is skanky, dirty, and gross. :puke:

14. Yes
I have found that most of their prices are about equal to Walmart, which is great because they keep their stores cleaner, the carts aren't wobbly all the time, and they block the shelves.

There is a cashier who works at my local Target who always had good comments about my Kerry or Anti Bush shirts. I always tried to help her with info since I was volunteering for the campaign. I suppose the workers are treated better at Target, and that shows in how they keep the stores.

I work a night shift and sometimes like to do my shopping at odd hours, and at the 24 hour Walmart Supercenter by me, they only have the self checkout open at those times, and the damn things don't work. "Please place item in bag!" I sometimes feel like punching that dang machine. I feel like they are making enough money to pay cashiers to ring you up.

I enjoy the atmosphere a lot more in Target, at Walmart it always seems to be an obstacle course.

15. 2 reasons I think they are better
Political donations aside, from what I understand Target is actually pretty decent to their employees. Walmart is able to keep it's prices low by pushing some of the costs of doing business (for example, providing insurance, infrastructure repairs, environmental costs) onto the taxpayers.

Also, Target gives money back to the local communities.

These things are more important to me than saving 10 cents on my toilet paper. And actually in things that I've read, Walmart isn't all that much cheaper. They beat everyone on a few items per department, but that's pretty much it.
