that I'm gonna stay the hell far, far, away.
I survived the GD Primaries and the GDP post-election, but I'm steering way clear of the God Wars Part the Eightenn Hundredth.
Ick.

9. Tolerance To Some People Means Bowing Down And Accepting Every Whim |
|
of your new Christian overlords...
"Bbbbut you are all supposed to be tolerant! You must tolerate us forcing your kids to learn creationism! You must tolerate us demanding you pray to god in school! You must tolerate us taking your reproductive health rights away! You must tolerate us forcing you to be crippled because we refuse to fund stem cell research! You must tolerate our beliefs as we're shoving them down your throat!"
Indeed.

but using the words "Crusades" (ya the progressive - but over sensitive - christians on Du - not to be mixed up with the crazy fundies... are trying to exterminate you)... seems like you are trying to be as incendiary as that which you are mocking... kinda like... lets start a thread meant to pull more moths to the flame but move it to the lounge...

15. btw, my denomination was in the news this week |
|
cuz cbs wouldn't play their advertisement...
I have no shame 'bout that... but a wee bit a pride.
Back to the topic at hand.... i think folks like to get their angst out against each other... so they push further and further in the rhetoric just pushing people to write/say things that will offend them... think both sides do this...
sorta reminds me of the early dean/clark; then dean/kerry spats...
as if "those thing that divide us, will make us stronger" is a motto among some here... lol

Even thought I'm not religious, that's the type of religion I can respect! Your denomination seems to embody the ideal of what religion SHOULD be (if you belive in that sort of thing ;-))

22. the Church I used to attend (2 communites ago) |
|
was a small congregation - maybe 40 -60 would attend a week. Each week there were three "offerings" (collections) one to keep/maintain the church, one special offering (hunger, supporting a member's medical mission to haiti (note mission is not to promote religion - but to try to help those in great need), and a weekly "Aids Offering" of dry goods, money or other items to help support several local hospice type programs for local HIV+ individuals suffering through full blown aids. This was the only time in life I have "tithed" (though sometimes, when I can, I give a big amount to a local effort in my personal form of tithing... like giving up a paycheck to complete all of the local thanksgiving through christmas food bundles which were far short of several needed types of canned goods...)
It seemed to me that nearly every member of the congregation (maybe 120 folks, tops) were professionally in one of three occupations: education, social work, or health care.
Communties like these, do exist. They just take a lot of looking to find.

26. Sacred mating excrement! Look at those TROLLS! Case in point: |
|
There's no shortage of atheist tyrants in the 20th century, and yet they feel the need to convince people that ADOLPH FUCKING HITLER was an atheist!!!
That's why I don't want Mein Kampf to be censored/banned. In it you can see how cozy AH wanted to be with Christians and the churches. He hated JEWS. NOT CHRISTIANS. JEWS.

13. I'm a VERY LW Christian, and I don't want anything to do with that type. |
|
I won't let them have my party, and they can keep their theology away from me and everyone else's business.
I don't want the church in the State and I sure as HELL don't want the state in my church.

17. You're absolutely correct. |
|
It floors my more wingnut Christian friends when I tell them that once the Church is inextricably part of the state then the state's gonna be inextricably part of the Church--and who decides what Church?
It absolutely strikes some of them dumbfounded.

They just don't get it at all. They dream of the wall of church-state separation coming down but don't think of the consequences. You wanna see church revenue get taxed? Just tear down that wall. In towns with religious affiliated hospitals these churches have a lot of valuable money-making property that's escaping taxation now. In Des Moines, Iowa business leaders continually lament about how much property is off the tax rolls forcing everyone else to pay more.
Wingnuts have been fed this line of there being this heaven on earth when the wall comes down. No one has told them what to think about what happens after the government starts regulating religion.
