My partner and I went to the Broadway Flea Market yesterday, where all the proceeds go to Broadway Cares! Equity Fights AIDS. The end of the day, they have a high profile auction for lots of cool stuff, like dinner with Antonio Banderas, hanging out with Sutton (Thoroughly Modern Millie) Foster, and her brother Hunter (Urinetown, and Little Shop of Horrors), they called it being a foster child of the Foster siblings.
Anyway, we stood there watching all these people pay these outrageous amounts of money for these packages. We stood there laughing and dishing, following along with the lot list. Then they get to Lot 32, the package for a trip to LA and a walk on role on Wanda At Large (the hit Fox show starring Wanda Sykes), and we LOVE Wanda, both the show and her. The bidding started at $1000, and we stood off to the side, barely within sight of the auctioneer. People started bidding and the price quickly rose to $2000, when my partner raised his paddle! I almost shit myself! The price continued to rise, and my partner continued to bid. We were there with his brother (who is an actor in NY) as well as two friends of ours and we were all just completely stunned. His brother goes "Jeff, what are you doing? They just called fair warning!" indicating that the bidding was almost over, and if he continued bidding, he may actually end up winning the lot. Jeff (or should I say whatever evil spirit that possessed my loving, caring partner of 4 years) turned to his brother, and in his best "Exorcist" voice said "I WANT IT!" We all back up about a foot as my partner clinched the deal with a final bid of $2600!
It was quite surreal! It really isn't that bad, though. We get a trip to LA and (at least he gets) a walk on role for hit TV show, for about the cost of a trip to LA, and it is tax deductible! WHO'S COOLER THAN ME!
