Poll question: Do you enjoy attending church/synagogue/mosque, etc.? |
|
Edited on Sun Dec-05-04 12:29 AM by Cuban_Liberal
I go to Mass several times a week, most weeks, and I honestly like going. It gives me a formal 'time out' away from the hustle and bustle and sheer madness of the world outside, and I reflect upon deeper matters, personal and otherwise. I always leave feeling better and more at peace with myself.
How about yourselves?

1. I really only go twice + when there's a special occasion.. |
|
.. but I have a strict tradition, that have me benched in a church for the Chistmas mass. I'm trying to make myself go to the New Years mass as well, but I'm usually tied up with preparations for a night of partying.

3. I think of yoga as my "church" |
|
And I very much enjoy going, getting away, having a time out to reflect upon deeper issues, as you put it so well. It's been a tremendous support for me this year.
I think this is a great question. :hi:

for the last year - after 30 years without a church.
But ... finally found a progressive one ... that embraces everyone ... much like UU ... more focused on mediation/affirmative prayer during the service ... Church of Religious Science. Fills my emotional tank up with positivity and sense of support.
Nice to have found a spiritual home ... my congregation is full of progressive Democrats.

8. Our parish is very progressive, surprisingly. |
|
I think many people tend to think of Roman Catholics as somehow marching in lockstep with the conservative/traditional Vatican stance on most issues, but we're as diverse as Baptists, really.

Churches are the people, and not the buildings,, and I think they tend to reflect that.

I feel much the same way about it as you do. It's a spiritual/emotional refresher for me.

5. a good concert is my "church" |
|
I find time to reflect as I listen. My family's church, however, is cross-country and I go there whenever I am in town.

10. Sounds nice ... having your own church at home. |
|
I can purchase my pastor's talks for $5 a CD. We have guest speakers, guest musicians. So, when I miss, I sometimes arrange my own 'service' at home.

11. I enjoy my church a LOT |
|
I was without a church home for a long time maybe 20 years or so, then I found this one. A liberally inclined Methodist church in the heart of Baptist Texas! But it's a great church with a long history of community service. I was always a Methodist anyway, but this church is such a good fit for me.
funny thing though, our morning worship services (except for the sermon part) are very formal and traditional. The first time I went there, I just sat back and soaked it in. The sanctuary is very beautiful, imitation gothic style, wonderful music, same rituals I remember from growing up. Felt like I belonged there from the very first time. Going through those old familiar rituals was/is a soothing thing for me, and the sermons are thought provoking and spiritual.
Then I found my Sunday School class and that was that. Even if I don't get up in time for 1st hour worship service, I make it in at 11 for class. I hate to miss Good Neighbors!
