Poll question: Name Our Band Poll.
Started playing again. We're a 5 piece. Drums/bass/two guitars/lead singer. Pretty straight ahead stuff. Lot's of distorted guitars, etc.

We're trying to update the Midwestern Power Pop sound and tend to emulate bands like Husker Du, The Replacements, The Stooges, Cheap Trick. Occasionally we sound a bit like Crazy Horse.

Everyone in the band has been playing around town for quite a while, and has their chops down pretty well. Here are some names that have been floated around at rehearsal. We have a small private gig in about 3 weeks. After that, we plan to start playing out.

Vote for your favorite. Who knows, we might be the next big thing.

4. I stole Insect Overlords from Kent Brockman.
Actually played out under that name a couple of time at Open Mic Night when I lived in Houston.

Also played out under the name, "The Pirates of Monkey Island". But that was on a dare.

12. Nine Inch Tent, I believe, has been retired.
It was a good name for an Open Mic Night, one gig only kinda thing.

But this new band is actually quite serious. Quite a few well-known bands from around here are represented. So, we'll see what happens.

Green nuns of the revolution

I'm not sure how we came up with that name, we play in San Antonio mostly and have a line up similar to yours, except we have a keyboardist as well.

I got one sitting in my basement.

Big Knife. I dunno. Around here, someone may show up with a big knife and use it.

I think we're going for some kind of folk-lore-ish cool sounding name.

But thanks for your suggestion.

Just cuz its a decent name that shouldn't be tossed out. Seems like a good guitar heavy band name. Visions of surf guitar dance in my head. Doomsters would be fun, too.

I also like Insect Overlords, but you might also consider jsut being the Overlords, but I imagine that name has been used.

48. Well, put "hoot" in the name somewhere, I'll move to your town, and
you'll be guaranteed one (but only one) huge-selling album. When I was in Philly, the Hooters broke huge. Then I moved home to Columbia, and Hootie and the Blowfish did the same. Unfortunately, my powers do not extend to followup albums, but possibly this is the fault of the artists for being one-trick ponies. Ya think?

53. Donkey Show! Donkey Show!
And I am kidding. I am completely serious! Laugh all you want, but it is a great name.

It is funny, it is offbeat, and, most importantly, it is memorable.

Imagine: "Dude, we're going out tonight! The Donkey Show's in town!"

Look, all your other names are ok. But The Donkey Show has a certain appeal to it.

Go with Donkey Show, or I am stealing it.

Can't argue with that.

I'm glad you think that all of the names are at least OK. A couple of them were just thrown in to see what would happen. I'd never seriously consider naming a band Dybbuk Nullifier. It's more a spoof name and it didn't get many votes either.

Keep voting folks. The decision will probably be made at rehearsal tomorrow night.
