Admit It: CO Liberal Looked "Interesting" At His Senior Prom
Edited on Sun Dec-05-04 11:55 AM by CO Liberal
Here I am at my Senior Prom in 1971. I'm the one on the right. The girl in the gold gloves was a girl I met in Junior Achievement during my Sophomore Year and dated through high school. I have absolutely no idea where she is today.

3. It Was 1971
Edited on Sun Dec-05-04 12:06 PM by CO Liberal
THAT was the theme.

Actually, each year a song was chosen to be the theme of the Senior Prom at Morristown High School. That year, it was "Love Story". The first time the wedding-type band tried to play it, they screwed it up royally. When they were finished, the singer leaned into the microphone and said, "Sorry, kids - we'll try to do it better next time!"

6. Gold gloves?
Edited on Sun Dec-05-04 12:07 PM by joefree1
I was a sophmore in my first year of Highschool in 1971. Our highschool was closed down for weeks in the Spring because of race riots.

I lost my illusions about the world and quit Campus Crusade (borg-agains). Nixon was President. What a year.

10. Her Parents Were Both Schoolteachers - and Unitarians
Edited on Sun Dec-05-04 12:17 PM by CO Liberal
She and her folks were very socially conscious, so I don't think the gold gloves were a class-type statement; I think they were a fashion statement. Remember, the entire world dressed funny from about 1968 to 1975...

My high school (Morristown High) didn't have race riots until 1974, when my kid sister was a junior. It started the night before as a fight at my church's annual carnival - the fight had started right in front of the goldfish-toss booth I was running, and quickly erupted into a riot that closed the carnival for the night. The riot closed the high school for a week, after which they had cops patrolling teh halls.

The carnival finished the week under heavy police guard, and the church never held another one.

Hippie-freak me and my hippie-type girlfriend in the Grand Ballroom of the Governor Morris Inn in Morristown, NJ - surrounded by jocks and cheerleader types.

The year before, my Junior Class had rebelled against convention and elected a hippie chick as our Prom Queen on a massive write-in campaign. The football coach came in second...

and I have a brother who has the CO Liberal/Dave Mustaine look as well. He used to go through a blow dryer every month or so because he'd blow dry his wavy hair straight. Now he's a geek (and his hair is much shorter), but is also a damn fine bass player. He was in class of '81 and one of the few in my family that I can really talk politics with.

Oh, and we were Unitarians too - LOL.

The gold lame' gloves are nice, too! Gold lame' took off really big after one of Elvis' comeback specials when he wore a suit of it. The Supremes had a gold lame' wardrobe, too, so it wasn't all that brief of a thing.
