Jamaican bobsled team returns to Evanston

By JOHN MORGAN
Star-Tribune staff writer Sunday, December 05, 2004

While once an international joke because of Jamaica's notorious lack of snowfall, the Jamaican national bobsled team stunned the world at the 1988 Olympics in Calgary, even though they came in last.

Since 1997, the team has called Evanston home to its North American training grounds. The sledders from the Caribbean island are back again this year, training until at least Dec. 12, according to a story in the Uinta County Herald.

Park City, Utah, which has a bobsled track, can be quite expensive, organizers say, so the team stays at Evanston, which is a relatively short 50-mile drive away.

"Over the years, they've really grown attached to this town," said Paul Skog, director of North American operations.
