Ben Franklin -- "ladies man"?????
:wow:

I'm sorry, but I have a hard time picturing ole "Ben" servicing anyone other than himself.

Tonight, the History Channel will look at the life of Franklin, and supposedly, he was quite popular with the ladies. He left no "recognized" heir, but did have children out of wedlock.

Franklin left no direct descendents with the surname, Franklin. He had two sons, William (who was illegitimate) and Francis, aka Franky. Franky died of smallpox at the age of 4. William had one son, Temple (also illegitimate). Temple had a daughter (again illegitimate), but no sons.

27. I thought it was Dan Hedaya.
Hedaya could play Scalia in a film someday.

39. he fathered 17 children.
i'll admit that not all 17 have been universally agreed on by historians, so the "correct" count may turn out to be something less, but as it stands, there are 17 people who are yet-to-be-disproven as children of ben.

13. Ben Franklin was quietly known for being
a consummer of the pornography of the day and a "john" for women of the night. Of course, it wasn't proper to let this happen publically but it was quite well known in private.

One of the reasons Ben Franklin wanted to be ambassador to France was the fact that even then sexual morals were much looser there than here.

He was fond of the fact that French women did not wear underwear. The rather famous quote is: "In France, one can be certain that the gates of Heaven are always open."

It is common, especially for fundies, who stress the founding fathers' strong faith, to believe these men were saints. They were certainly men just like us, faults, vices, and all. Exceptional, but men just like anyone else.

26. And I can't trust apparently second-hand, unattribute claims by DU members

to be credible on this matter.

On the other hand, without a source I obviously can't debunk it.

SO I guess it leaves it in the realm of pure 200-plus-year-old rumor and innuendo.

28. A guy I grew up with, Nathan McCall
wrote a book, "What's Going On".

One of the chapters was titled "Founding Fathers -- America's first deadbeat dads".

He claims to have tracked down a descendant of George Washington who was fathered by him with one of his slaves. Said there was a remarkable resemblance to him.
