URGENT Need outdoor Xmas light safety advice...
Hey as you know I did my first outside Xmas lites. Blue and white for political reasons.

Anyways we're about to get rain. I used the green heavy dooty :) extension cords. They have room for 3 plugs at one end. In some instances I left 1 or 2 of the plugs unused.

Will it cause a problem? Should all 3 of the plugs be covered or used?

Merci!

1. They'll be fine
But if you have something to put in them, like those little safety plastic things for outlets, it never hurts to be sure. And if you don't, then duct tape 'em or just turn them over so no water gets in them.

But, really, generally speaking there's nothing to worry about.

3. Merci! Thanks! I'm gonna go plug em up! I'm gonna put some duct
tape over the open ones like you recommended.

2. Tape them up
You don't want water getting in there. Black electrical tape is good, duct tape if need be.

5. DO NOT JUST LEAVE THEM OPEN
Take it from me--I have caused two situations now where I had electricity shorting around all over the place outside because I did that.

In one instance my siding got scorched (granted it was a tiny area but it scared the hell out of me hearing what sounded like a giant microwave with foil in it outside!)

These other posters are right tape the blank outlet up or unplug the lights when it rains because it can create havoc and better safe than sorry!

7. Thanks! I've done the coverwork on the lites. They look pretty
and hopefully are safe.
