Look at the markings on Skittles (The Kitten)
Her mom is a tortoiseshell with some tabby markings, and her dad is a sandy tabby. This is the mom's second litter; each litter has produced a ginger tabby.

When I first saw her, I thought surely she was a tortoiseshell. But see the ginger markings? And the tortie markings? It's clear, for all of that, that she's primarily a tabby.

And a cute one!! I think my favorite markings are the orange toes.

(Skittles is on the left)

2. She looks a lot like my cat
her brothers were orange tabbies. She's a little more brown than Skittles (her gray areas have a brownish tinge) but she has some orange stripes (especially on her face).

I love tabbies.

19. What happened to the little orange tabby?
Edited on Mon Dec-06-04 05:06 PM by GingerSnaps
Did you play that game that I posted for you?

BTW The Mama Cat must have been real picky because your babies are dolls. The way that the orange markings runs through her hair is unusual and I think that you are going to have a show winner. Can you imagine what she is going to look like when she is a full grown Cat? They are so chubby and healthy looking. :)

17. The "M" is a standard tabby marking.
Mine's got one, too--you'll rarely see a tabby without the "M" on the forehead.

10. I think that's called an
orange patch tabby. I have a cat that's a darker colored tabby with orange patches just like that. I saw a cat at a cat show with the same markings and the lady said it was called an orange patch tabby.

Your kittens are vey cute!

said brown patch tabby. I can't remember exactly now. I think she said brown.

15. I'd never heard of "patch tabby." I like it that someone's named the
variation, though. I probably never heard of it because I try to avoid breeders and their conversations, literature, web sites.

But, uh, obviously, people who aren't breeders would know names of variations -- like you! :eyes: at self

I don't get to too many cat shows, either. What I know about cats I've learned by living with them.

16. I don't know too much about it either
I got my cats from the shelter. They put on airs just as much as the show cats, so they know that all cats are members of royalty!

21. It's a good idea to stay away from Cat Shows
I had a conversation with a breeder one time about how many cats she owned. She had so many cat's that I can't remember the exact figure but it was over 20 and she said that they lived in cages.

Cages....cats don't like to be confined to a cage when they go to the vet let alone live 24/7 in a cage. We use to have 4 cats, 3 dogs and a bird and I felt like they didn't get enough attention so, how can 20 some odd kitties plus adult cats get enough attention especially when they are locked in cages. :grr:

11. Oddly enough, I never saw a cat marked like that ...
until two or three years ago, at the shelter. Right now, we have one in there who's just beautiful -- silver tabby with ginger patches. She has one of the prettiest coats I've ever seen, really thick and fluffy.

It is unusual, though -- of all the torties and calicos we get in there, I'd say maybe fewer than a quarter are tortie-tabbies. Most look like ginger tabbies with black on them, like both of mine.

I love the multi-colored toes -- both of mine have them, and their pads are also black and pink.
