Like the star.

It wasn't me that you saw post but I also bought it as a Christmas present.

YOu can learn a lot at sirius.com otherwise if you post your question I'll post an answer if I know it.

2. Sirius
My son wants Sirius for Christmas. I went on the Siruis site but don't know which one to buy him. He didn't say except he wants Sirius. I assume he wants it for his car and his house. There were different ones for the car and house. What do I buy - I am not a tech person.

3. Go with Sportster unit
Edited on Sun Dec-05-04 10:41 PM by neoteric lefty
External, no wires to connect to the car stereo (uses FM Modulation). Can get a home kit for 50 bucks that will allow him to hook it up to any stereo with RCA cjacks (or computer). Can also get a boombox for a bit more (not as good IMO). Unless you are a baseball or NASCAR fan, go with Sirius.

4. You have to buy
the receiver or a receiver that is already Sirius satellite ready. Most big electronic stores can set you up. The stores will install everything your son needs. You do not buy certain stations. It is a whole package. You pay roughly $10 a month to get some of the best music programming I have ever heard. It's awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!

5. its actually $12.95 per month
Edited on Sun Dec-05-04 10:44 PM by neoteric lefty
plus a $15 activation fee. Great thing about the music is that Sirius actually uses real human beings to program their music versus XM using computer databases. That doesn't mean it is necessarly better, just means he will probably get a wider selection of music.

8. Stay away from lifetime
The lifetime is only good for that EXACT unit. If it gets stolen or breaks, you are out of luck. If a better unit is invented, you are stuck with the "old one".

7. First of all
I am not going to pay $500.00 - that is his deal. I just want him to get started with Serius. Radio Shack offers Serius for $99.00 with rebates, is this worth it? Is this what I am looking to buy? I'll leave it up to him to build on to this, but all I want for him is a starter.

I am trusting DU to help since I do not trust salesmen. Sorry if you are a salesman, but do trust you will give me the correct information since you are DU.

10. Sirius Radio will bless your first born with unimaginable happiness
maybe not, but 99 bucks is a good deal for an external unit.

11. Sounds like a good deal to me.
Edited on Sun Dec-05-04 11:55 PM by proud2Blib
I paid $100 for the unit in my car and $100 for the boom box in my house.

And I am steering away from that lifetime price because web radio may be better than satellite.

9. So tell me,
what is the bargain price, that is, what should I expect to pay for everything as a present?

12. They have a unit for about $119 w/rebate now and you have to pay for
one year of broadcast service which costs about $150. You can get a waiver off the activation fee if you go to the website and get the waiver and activation info there. That saves about $15. You may also want to get it installed in the car which costs about $50 to $80. I have one but it is not installed because I move the unit from car to car and to the house.
