DU GROUP PROPOSAL: LONERS
MISSION STATEMENT: The purpose of the LONERS group is to provide a safe and supportive place where DUers who live alone (i.e., who are the only human beings residing at their address) can discuss the issues surrounding our situation. Safety, housework, management of loneliness and other painful emotions, as well as explaining the choice to live alone to incredulous others are all appropriate topics for this group.

Ten starred members care to join me?

GB, the loneliest Gryffindor of all tonight

2. Yes, you count.
He doesn't have a social security number, right? Fuck all this pro-life pro-choice arguing. THAT is the definition of a human being. Have you been tattooed by Uncle Sam?

3. no, but the way republican fascism is going
I'm sure we will meet in a re-education center one day.

I like your idea of a singles forum - gawd, it's unbelievable how many ways we get screwed, and not in a good way either

5. love the idea, but I'm not sure I qualify...
my living-alone days are currently numbered (though a much larger number than I would like), and it's only been recently that I stopped loving it and began to loathe it

6. Not a bad idea
I enjoy living alone. I'm very independent and like not having to arrange my space/habits around another person. I suppose I'll get married someday so I'm enjoying being single while I still can.

25. As an indistinguishable member of this
august body of seperation, I move that people who are not joiners in a societal sense, and are alone together, be given entrance!

After all, one is the lonliest number, worse than two!

30. But if we join a group of loners
Would we still be loners? :o ;-)

I like living alone on purpose too. Any time I have tried doing to the contrary, it never works. I am good at being a hermit.

31. I HATE living alone..
this is the first time I have ever had my own apartment. Everyone graduated and left my city and I had to start over with new friends. I didn't want to live with strangers, since I had a bad experience with a psycho roommie years ago. It was so bad I used to leave an empty glass in front of my (non-locking) bedroom door in fear that he would come into my room in the middle of the night. He used to write me crazy 15 page letters. I tried talking to the cops, but they didn't do diddly. But living alone sucks too. Coming from a large family, there was always noise and activity. Now, I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night, and feel incredibly alone and scared. I sleep at least 3 nights a week at my friends' apartment; they understand. I do have my boyfriend around on weekends, so that helps. And my cat is not happy, either, I think. He's used to having 2 other cats around. Now he meows all the time if I leave him for too long. I've thought about getting another cat, but this apartment isn't that big. *sigh* thanks for letting me vent!

32. hey
LEARN to like it. I always say, if you can't stand your own company why should others want to be around you? Relish your time alone - there is an old saying "the only thing worse than being alone is wishing you were." There's lots of advantages to living alonge - in particular I have always liked the freedom of doing what I want when I want without having to constantly coordinate with someone. This is a great time to really get to know yourself. Stop telling yourself you are "alone" and be grateful for what you have in your life. Get some friends, some hobbies, do some volunteer work for the less fortunate. Go to an afternoon dollar movie alone. Try it! I've lived alone for years and really, it's OK.
