Soccer player loses finger in goal celebration - gets yellow card
Edited on Mon Dec-06-04 08:57 AM by Kellanved
...
Servette midfielder Paulo Diogo was forced to have his left ring finger amputated on Sunday after catching it on a perimeter fence during his side's 4-1 win at Schafthausen.

The 29-year-old Swiss-Portuguese player jumped up on the fence in celebration after setting up his team's third goal.

Diogo, who got married recently failed to notice, however, that his wedding ring was caught in the metal barrier and severed the top two joints of the finger as he jumped back down.

He was then shown a yellow card for his excessive celebration.

5. An official warning
Edited on Mon Dec-06-04 09:11 AM by underpants
a RED card gets you kicked out of the game and the next one (your team plays with only 10 on your side for the rest of the game the player gets booted from).

A YELLOW is a warning-two YELLOWS in one game = a RED. International bodies also have set the number of YELLOWs in a certain number of games as a disqualifier from the next game. I think these vary but the point is to give troublemakers and habitual offenders (an their team) punishment.

9. Much like a technical foul in basketball
Edited on Mon Dec-06-04 10:26 AM by StopThePendulum
The first is a warning; the second, or a double technical, gets you kicked out of the game. The only difference is that basketball doesn't issue yellow and red cards, even though they should. Basketball doesn't penalize the entire team for the actions of the player or coach issued a double technical by forcing the side to play four-on-five for the rest of the game.
Basketball should also issue orange cards for players who fouled out.

8. Talk about giving it all for your team
How many baseball players would give a finger up after scoring a run. Them football players is tough.
