Drunken man hits teen girls for wearing pierced earrings

NEYAGAWA, Osaka -- A drunken man who kicked two girls and hit them in the head because they were wearing pierced earrings has been arrested, police said.

The 68-year-old man, a resident of Neyagawa, Osaka Prefecture, was arrested on suspicion of assault following the incident, which occurred in a park in Neyagawa on Sunday afternoon.

Investigators said the man became angry when he saw that the two girls, aged 13 and 14, were wearing pierced earrings as they were playing in the park.

He reportedly approached them saying, "What do you think you're wearing in your ears?" then hit them several times in the head and kicked them.

A 16-year-old girl with the two younger girls phoned police, who rushed to the park and arrested the man. He was reportedly drunk at the time, and admitted having assaulted the girls.
