How about a Monday Night art appreciation thread.
A know there must be a few great artist's here on DU, and even if you can't draw a straight line...you can still look at the pretty pictures...

Here's one of my favorites from the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
Paul Gauguin's "Where Do We Come From? What Are We? Where Are We Going?"

Of course if you're an umber-vain artist like myself...post some of your own artwork!

Here's one of my own entitled "It This Were August, This Would Be Perfect.", not a great photo, I know--the scan was taken from a newspaper article, but I like it...

Here's a clearer one when it was only a work in progress...

This painting was huge, close to 5x15...here's one of my old studio to give you a sense of scale. The painting above could easily cover all of these here...

Alright now let me see what you got...inspire me!

4. I like Dorian Cleavenger
WARNING: Her art is intended for adult audiences.

I also like M.S. Hollis. Although they draw very different things, both of these artists are realists (they like to draw as if they were a camera lens).

5. Strangely surreal!
I like it.

I tend to work in the macabre as well, but with more of a sense of cartoon humor.

Here's another one of mine...warning kind of weird...

7. Thank you...
When I was in art school, about a hundred years ago, on of my fellow students said, during one of my critiques, that my paintings had a 'voyeuristic' quality to them...

A complement, I guess...lol.

18. Thanks...
I'm glad you liked my paintings...

And don't put your own work down...boring girl stuff? Surely you must have heard of Georgia O'Keeffe? Hardly boring girls stuff.

Me, myself, I'm not bored by girls stuff at all. I like it.

Don't disillusion yourself into thinking that "art" is not for you.

Lots of Gorilla Girls out there, us fellers better watch out.

I'd like to see some of your art... ;-)

21. Re: having a studio
Me too! I have one friend who's always asking me "why don't you paint anymore"

She's seen my paintings, and loves them...how do I tell her I can't afford to even paint?

Paint cost money!

Forget about even having studio space...

Or am I spewing :nopity: stories again?

(off topic, congats on 400--see the "Sesame St." thread for my official tip o'the fedora. I noticed you're getting a little closer to me. And I'm glad you liked my poem. But I still have a few tricks in my socks.)

Edited on Mon Dec-06-04 11:09 PM by fluffernutter
it can be SO expensive. especially if you are painting one of those really big ones like the one above. which is amazing. i have never done a huge one like that, it must be so liberating!

a dream: i would love to have a sunroom/artroom someday :)

off to find the sesame street thread so i can say thank you over there, hehe.

I love Longgrain's large piece, What energy!

Well, here's my stuff for show and tell:

My newest work, finished last week:

Cover Art for a book I illustrated:

Please excuse the watermarks, and the poor lighting on the color one.

There's more at my website (www.MelanieArt.com), although I warn the faint of heart that there's risque stuff, and naked people in there. ;)

I know there are a lot of artists here, there has to be. Please share! Oh, and I still want an Artist's Group too. :(
