How and when do you become Joe Blow, Sr. |
|
Edited on Mon Dec-06-04 10:16 PM by DemoTex
Does it happen automatically when you name your son Joe Blow (Jr). Does Junior name you senior, or something else? What is the protocol on that?

1. I'm not an expert, but it makes sense if you name your child Joe |
|
Blow Jr., then you automatically become Joe Blow Sr. just so that people can differentiate between the two of you when speaking or writing.

2. I'm a Junior, Dad's a Senior, and I didn't have any sons... |
|
So there's no Jawn the Third running around...
Happens automatically.

3. I have a cousin who is the V. |
|
John Pierre (my mother's maiden name). We are rather proud of that. John V got married last summmer. Now we are awaiting John VI, although Senior and Junior are no longer alive, we keep the tradition going.

5. I dated a fellow who was a III |

Instead of going by any of the family names, they just called him Trey. :)

6. According to etiquette, there is no such thing |
|
Rules of etiquette say that Joe Blow is just Joe Blow. His son is Jr. Jr.'s son is III and III's son is IV. And believe it or not, that's how far we've gotten in my family so far (my granddad, dad, brother and nephew).
People tend to tack on Sr. to avoid confusion which makes sense because there tends to be much.
