Cover songs worse than the originals? |
|
If this has been already done then I apologize...!
I'd start with Jimmy Page and Puff Daddys' version of "Kashmir" from the Godzilla soundtrack...

ND's version is much better than Talk Talk's. :P
Not that Talk Talk's It's My Life was horrible, it was just flat sounding, vocally and musically, especially when compared to No Doubt's version.
The song went to #3 on Billboard, and will probably win the band their third consecutive Grammy award in the Best Song by a Group/Duo category.:D
The video for ND's IML rocks my socks also.B-)

Jimmy Page was good ... but Puff Daddy (screaming in a mic)--->it was AWWWWWWWWFUL.
as far as covers, nearly all covers I've heard recently that made it on radio playlists suck bad. Jimi hendrix, Beatles, Doors,---I've heard all bad covers none good.

is just the exact same as the original.....
What's the point...
Also, Linda Rondstant's version of Poor Poor Pitiful me was the most popular version of Warren Zevon's song, but WZ did it better and with a lot more passion......

His cover of Van Morrison... HORRIBLE! My first thought was "Somebody please get that bastard a lozenge."
Sad part is, by design, these more popular label-profit-machines tend to get credit for a lot of those remakes to the ignorant "top-40" consumer masses.

12. For the most part covers suck. |
|
I have heard a few good ones, but for the most part, blah.
Like a recent cover of 'Imagine' by John Lennon.
Ack! Don't really wanna know who that was.
I liked Guns n Roses covers mostly.
Then again at the time they came out, I was blown away by the band, so I might be a bit biased.
Even if Axel is an eccentric control freak, and that is being nice.
I think Stevie Ray Vaughn did a great cover of Voodoo Child.
And I always loved the Grateful Dead.
I can tell I am out of the mainstream as most of what I listen to is 'classic rock' now.
Don't go for much newer stuff.

|
the kind of idea hatched in a nightmare
"let's take a shitty, one hit wonder frat band, have them cover a classic band's biggest hit and...get this, we'll have them imitate the vocal note for note and not be original in any way shape or form! and if that's not a enough, we'll throw a shitty ska beat behind it in parts, too!"
god, i hate the music industry

it's bad enough to be a one hit wonder, but even worse when your one hit is someone else's song.
the original is a beutifully cold and mechanical pop song. i could have done without a third rate marilyn manson trying to look spooky and growling over the music.

Suck, suck, suck, suck, suck. I hate, loathe, and detest "pop punk" - especially when it thinks its good enough to cover the most popular single from the solo career of one of the EAGLES. No, The Ataris. You suck. Shut up.
