Anyone in retail? Does this make you feel old? |
|
I work part time at a well-known bookstore and occasionally have to work the registers. As a cashier, I sometimes have to check the ID of a customer (usually writing a check).
My question: How weird is it when someone who (you think) looks way older than yourself actually has a birthdate 5-10 years LATER than yours?
I'm always amazed - it makes me think that perhaps my actual appearance might not conform with my mental self-image at all. (I guess I think that I still look like my college graduation portrait.)
Does anyone else get this little self-awareness hiccup?

2. Or when you realize there are doctors younger than you are! |
|
I used to work in retail and I would always try to guess people's ages before I looked at their ids. I got pretty good at it.

3. Some people look older than others |
|
My best friend is 36 and looks young. The first time I met him, when he was 34, I guessed his age to be 28. He looks almost identitical to a picture he showed me of when he was 24. In my anxiety support group, I met a few men who were the same age that looked over forty. A man at work, who I thought was over fifty, revealed in conversation that he was only 41. I have generally been mistaken as younger recently and think that I look younger than many people my own age. Perhaps, you should ask some aquaintances that aren't seeing you constantly or don't know your true age, how old they think you are if you really want to know.
