Is Ensure Evil or is it Just me? |
|
I drank a bottle of Vanilla Supreme Ensure for lunch yesterday, and I can't seem to stay out of the bathroom ever since. I took Immodium and it helped some, but today I've progressed from backdoor trots to flat out nausea, and am considering leaving work, not that I can afford to do that.
I thought Ensure was just supposed to be nutrients that you might not get if you don't eat so great. I feel like I took a colon cleanser! There seems to be a ball of fire deep in my gut.
Is this just me???

It's happened to a couple of people I know.
Know of one guy who started drinking it to help lose weight and he was stricken with lethal flatulence.

6. Ensure tastes nasty, but it works as advertised. |
|
I spent three months living off the stuff because I lost 30 lbs due to illness and was at a very unhealthy weight. I've always been thin, but weigh close to 110 lbs when you are 5'7" isn't healthy.
It took me a couple of months of supplementing my diet with Ensure 3 times a day in addition to regular food to get my weight back up to normal.

weigh in around 115. I also have degenerative spine disease, and am lactose intolerant. This said it was lactose free, so I figured I was in the clear.

10. May I suggest you supplement with acidophillus? |
|
It MIGHT help you with the problem you are having.
I am also lactose intolerant.
I was downing a LOT of yogurt at the same time I was taking Ensure as well and that might have been why I didn't have any real issues.

16. Lactobacilus Acidophilus is a bacteria.... |
|
...that is important to digestion as with many of the other normal flora found in the digestive tract.
It can help with lactose intolerance and aid digestion (as well anecdotally helps with those who end up getting diarrhea from sources they wouldn't expect).
It also is commonly used in conjunction with antibiotics to prevent yeast infections that result from the antibiotic killing off beneficial bacteria in the body.
Yogurt is a very good source of acidophilus, but it can also be purchased as a supplement.

Drank it all in less than a minute and got it over with.

23. Get the refrigerated kind of the supplement. |
|
And get the one with FOS also, it's the food that feeds the healthy bacteria in your gut so it will multiply. :)

12. If you compare ensure to carnation instant breakfast |
|
you'll find they're identical, they both offer the same ammount of calories, the same vitamins and minerals in the same ammount. The difference being ensure costs more to pay for their advertising, save some money and buy carnation, plus if you use your own milk you'll be saving more.

I do eat right and take a multi-vitamin, so I hope to stay far away from the Ensure.

I think the mung ensure leaves behind in your mouth is evil enough, without the trots.
I had to drink the stuff while recovering from some stomach surgery a few years back. Vile stuff.

Gluten intolerances can also mask as lactose problems.
I think ensure is foul. Your better off with one of the protein shakes at GNC if your going to go towards that route of meal replacement.
It's just that drinking Ensure is like drinking similac, to me.
