A little rant about duplicate stories in different forums
I hadn't really paid attention, before I was a moderator,
to the same news story or opinion piece in more than one forum....
but now it's kinda frustrating knowing that I've read
an article or opinion piece and not knowing if it's in more
than one forum or just a dupe in the same forum.

If I owned the world or at least this corner of it,
I'd want the title of the author, the exact title of
the piece in the subject line placed once in the most
appropriate forum. Let's conserve people!

My little controlling rant of the day. My views do
not reflect the DU administration! :-) rfu

1. Yes and no?
I used to see a lot of stuff in GD that should have been in Lounge, but so much lately.
I was sort of guilty today. I used Lounge to advertise a thread that I wanted to start in Meeting Room.
Many forums get little "drop in" traffic.
Maybe we could use "signposts". Just a subject line and where you want to have the discussion.
Subject line: "How are you investing your 401K?"
msg: "Meet me in Economic forum to discuss."
???

2. Sometimes you don't know
Po' Folks like me, who, as much as they would like to, haven't been able to afford a donation, aren't able to do a search first. Before the search function was disabled, I was able to search before posting in order to avoid a dupe.

Sorry, I'll browse around a little better before posting in the future, so hopefully we can keep things a little cleaner.

3. Agreed. there's also way too many dupe stories *within* the same
forum. If only peple would take just a moment to scan the day's postings, especually in LBN, before posting their own, it would make it so much nicer!

4. yes, posting the exact title really helps...
of course we know that every newspaper uses its own
headlines which gets confusing and lends itself to
overlapping stories.

Anyway, just a suggestion. I know that it's a lot
more work doing a search before posting. Thanks
in advance for anything you can do along to keep
the clutter off.
