Sushi eaters, what's your favorite sushi and why?
Mine's Unagi.. Lightly toasted and covered in sweet sauce. And I like it because it's yummy.

7. well everybody has to start somewhere
I love getting to my favorite sushi restaurant early. There's always one sushi chef just making california rolls because of the high demand. I think they pre-make like 30 each night or something. Crazy popular, that crab and yellow gourd confection.

I'm pretty hard core. I don't like lots of sauces on my sushi other than soy and wasabi. I REALLY like salmon and tekka though. Love squid and octopus, but they are both a little tough at times.

Quail eggs are always talked about but I have never had it with my sushi, regretably.

24. it does well to sweeten up ikura
or any other "battleship" fish roe based sushi. It usually costs a little extra but try it on one piece next visit to the sushi bar.

Sea urchin rules! (Even though it's murderously expensive.)

Edited to add: It's really sensual.

16. Bleah!
Sorry, it's the one type of sushi I don't like, except maybe whole baby octopus.

It's not that it's so bad, it's just that I have two reef tanks at home and spend a good deal of time messing with live rock, and uni both smells and tastes just like live rock. That's because sea urchins scrape algae off of live rock for food.

Everything else, i'm game. Maybe I just got some bad uni or something.

30. Uni!! My favorite!!

Number two: Ikura (salmon roe) with quail's egg.

My 2 year old daughter has loved Ikura since she was a baby (but no quail's egg).

Number 3: Unagi

11. Anything but sea urchin
And unagi is indeed yummy. I had a couple of new things the other day at a new sushi place up valley from me: spicy monkey roll (mixed shredded fish rolled in rice and deep fried with a spicy sauce) and crunchy dragon roll (again wrapped in rice and deep fried so it was crunchy, can't remember exactly what was in it.)

Tried sushi that had fruit in it...I had never had it before and it was yummy...

I'm a big fan of sushi, but generally don't like avocados, so sweet fruit was a welcome alturnitive...

13. I like almost everything
I don't like Sea Urchin and Giant Clam, but I like most other Sushi- I like bonito and fluke and salmon and tuna and white tuna and spicy tuna rolls. There is a sushi place near here that makes a tuna with cracked peppercorns that isn't traditional but is very tasty.

I also like eel which is not raw but also quite tasty,. My daughter, the gourmand, likes flying fish roe with quail egg. This is a kid who when I asked her what she'd like me make for her for her 10th birthday requested Osso Bucco!

My son, who is now 10, likes sashimi better than sushi, and can down a whole platter!

14. Toro and ama-ebi
Give me some fat or raw shrimp any day. However, hard to come by sometimes and the shrimp always has to be extra fresh so I only save that for the best restaurants

I used to go to Kirala in Berkeley CA They had a wasabi chicken appetizer which was grilled chicken coated in pure wasabi. It tasted great and went great with

18. Sniff! I miss sushi!
Can't eat it. No raw foods while I'm pregnant. Baby's due the end of January, and our anniversary is February 9 -- I bet you can guess what sort of restaurant I'll be suggesting.

Or, maybe I'll take a nice nap instead. :-)

31. I had sushi the day I got home after delivering my 1st baby
My husband went out and brought home a very expensive take out order of sushi, since I hadn't had any for almost a year- I didn't eat sushi when we were trying to get pregnant just in case. It was good! Hang in there- you'll have your sishi and your baby soon! (congrats!)

Mmmm, now I am hungry for some. I also like Phoenix rolls, something our restaurant here makes, not sure if it is nationwide, worldwide, but it is tuna, shrimp, eel, eel sauce, roe, and some other yummy stuff.

edit: Wrong ingredients.
