Getting the "children" used to one another: Need Pet Advice

it's been 24 hours....

bunny in one cage, cockatiel in another....

cockatiel fluttered around cage quite a bit when bunny was out galavanting.......bunny got a little put off by this and eventually ran away....

the children should at least be able to tolerate each other sometime? maybe not now, of course?

1. Swap cages

or put the bunny up against the cockatiel cage and let them fight it out.

My cat won't go near a budgie after getting bitten a few times.

2. Give them time

My parakeets would jump around the cage when I first introduced my Rottie to them. But now they don't even blink an eye when the dog barks.

I'm worried, but hey, 24 hours? I guess I should relax....

I just don't want them "worried" whilst the other one is out playing.....they each deserve some free exercise time. :nuke: They are BOTH my babies now......

3. Put a muzzle on that attack rabbit...

4. Give them time.

The bird is in a brand new home and is likely to be somewhat nervous anyway. Then, on top of that, he sees this bunny running around; that would easily generate fear and/or excitement/agitation. They'll get ysed to each other's presence after a while. No need to worry at this point.

6. Time

They should get used to each other (at least tolerate each other) eventually. But Buster the cockatiel scares the daylights out of all of our cats. They run and hide from him!!! It's so funny - cracks everyone up!

7. Had a dear neighbor with a cockatiel and a dog who got on fine.

Used to take Havoc Cat over to visit a lot. Havoc walked on a cat harness and leash. Her dog would pick up the leash and walk my cat out the pet door for a tour of the yard then back in to visit the bird. All went well for many visits. Cat would carefully reach up and sniff bird. Bird would carefully come and visit cat (from the safety of his huge cage.) The bird finally showed a bit of affection, sliding down the cage wall and going beak to nose with my gentle cat. Then the bird cocked his head and said "Aw, he's a pretty boy!" The cat tried to haul ass home fast! Since he couldn't get the neighbor's door open (damned thumb thing again) he tried very hard to shove his 17 pound mass under the door.

It was 2 weeks before I could entice him outside after that. "Hey, mom, no way! There are birds out there and birds can talk!"
