8. Those are great and there were others! Like:
C'mon C'mon - The Von Bondies

Maps - Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Here I Am - The Explosion

Float On - Modest Mouse

Slow Hands - Interpol

Run - Snow Patrol

Mosh - Eminem

American Idiot - Green Day

Ocean Avenue or Only One - Yellowcard

Slither - Velvet Revolver

Vertigo - U2

Oh there are many I'm forgetting, ah well that will do for now hehe. :)

And also this is just my opinion on what are "good" songs. LOL

11. THE REASON?!
Now that I am much older and wiser I am trying to be more openminded about other people's taste (ya like what ya like) but THE REASON??!! Give me a fucking break!! It's formulaic bullshit that already sounded stale on its first play. It's so cliche and cheeseball that I get that vomit-in-the-back-of-your-throat-choke-it-down thing just thinking about it. I would rather be stuck in a room listening to Sun Ra (and I HATE Sun Ra) for the rest of my life than have to listen to that song even for 20 seconds ever again.

I saw Hoobastank open for Incubus 3(?) years ago and it was the worst thing I have ever experienced. Their music has to be the soundtrack to hell!

Aaaaah I feel better

12. I guess I am old--I don't know any of the songs!
Edited on Wed Dec-08-04 12:25 AM by notmyprez
And I used to write for a music magazine, knew all the songs and artists. Now, the only time I listen to the radio is in my car, and it's very rare that I hear a song that I even kinda like. Music used to be such a huge part of my life, and now I don't really care about it any more.

And, BTW, I've never even HEARD of Kanye West; never seen the name. Male? Female? Group? Another

13. Kanye West
is a producer Roc-A-Fella Records and a damn good one at that. He's known for taking classic R&B samples and speeding them up and it sounds great. He released his first solo album as a rapper this year and its great. He does average guy rap and does more than the bling-bling bullshit. If he got up and took a shit he raps about it.

14. where's "None of the Above" ?
Edited on Wed Dec-08-04 12:35 AM by Neo
As a musician I would consider it an honor to NOT be nominated

Grammys are completely out of touch withe the music world. Total mainstream corporate homogenized BLAND crap.

To give you an idea this is the first year for Best Surround Sound Album:
(For vocal or instrumental albums. Albums only.)

* Avalon(Roxy Music)

* Genius Loves Company(Ray Charles & Various Artists)

* Mahler: Symphony No. 4(Michael Tilson Thomas Conducting San Francisco Symphony)

* Nick Of Time(Bonnie Raitt)

* Raise Your Spirit Higher(Ladysmith Black Mambazo)

Not bad artist mind you (I LOVE Avalon) but how about something in this Decade!

15. Why is mainstream a dirty word?
Edited on Wed Dec-08-04 12:40 AM by ZoCrowes
There is genius and crap in every form of music be it super obscure indie or plastered all over MTV/VH1 there is some good in there somewhere. You just have to look past the image and the bullshit on some of it.

For the most part the Grammies are a complete suckfest but occasionally some good does slip through.

17. really bad choices except for Kanye
Not a huge rap listener, but Kanye is definitely the only reasonable choice here. The song is at least heartfelt and has a decent background.

The Reason?!?!?!? That song fits more into the category of music that I listen to, but the song makes me want to puke. Terrible lyrics, whiny off-key vocals, boring music, just UGH

My picks:

1. "Float On," Modest Mouse
2. "Take Me Out," Franz Ferdinand
3. "Staring at the Sun," TV on the Radio
4. "Mosh," Eminem
5. "The Power is On," The Go Team

18. Are these the actual nominees for song of the year?
oh man. Daughters is sooo sappy. It's the musical equivalent of a cheap applause line like, "children are our future!" Most of the rest is run of the mill boring pop. ugh
