My mother sent me red flannel pjs for my 50th birthday
Jeez. I thought I was doing okay until I opened that package left on my front porch by the mailman. Red flannel pajamas with cartoon cats all over them....

It just sent me into an immediate mental funk...am I over the hill, too old for sexy nightwear? I am now relegated to what I wore at age 6? Or is this my mom's problem (does she want to continue thinking of me as her virginal baby girl?)

Or should I just open a bottle of champagne and forget that I have now logged half century on this planet?

*sigh*

By the way, it's the last day of summer as well.

1. happy birthday sierra_moon
maybe your mom was thinking of warmth and comfort in the cold winter months ahead. And wouldn't it be weird to get sexy nightwear from your MOM??? :scared:

13. No, it wouldn't be weird
I've been giving her sexual advice ever since my dad left and she started dating. I was about 20 then.

So, yeah, it would have been totally cool.

I have been wearing flannels since I was a kid. Don't worry about it they are going to be warm when the winter hits.

Your mother loves you and she wants you to stay warm.

Did the PJs have feet by any chance? I'd love to have a pair of footed PJs especially in the winter.

8. Is this your special
birthday? Mine is coming up. Moms are moms, ya know? She probably thought they were cute or maybe they would make you feel better. Who knows, but 50 is great! Think of all the experience and wisdom you have gained. Now, save this and send it to me in a couple of months. SO far it doesn't bother me, but I have not quite gotten there yet. Happy birthday! (((((50 HUGS)))))

23. OK, MuseRider, you got yours coming
50 isn't anything until you wake up that morning and realize you are a half-century old....

I will be happy to remind you!!

By the way, my mother and my sister both say their lives improved immeasurably upon turning 50 (and my sister is just 54, so it must be pretty good!)

10. Happy Birthday Sierra Moon. I just told my Mom about your present
She is 74 and said that if some one mailed her red-flannel cat pajamas, at her age, it would make her cry. She said that she would have drunk herself into oblivion if she received them at 50. But it is funny to me. Maybe because I am male. I guess one might need to be a female to really catch the pathos of the cat-jammies. :)

re-birthed...you are now a child again.

Or at least your mom thinks so. Those jammies will come in handy come winter.
and i wouldn't rely on my mom to decide whether i was still sexy in pjs.

i gave up wearing them at 12 anyway, and haven't since.

:)

and edit: my belated birthday wishes!!! (i'm so busy denying my next (50th) that i blanked on yours)...i plan to live forever anyway, so i'm just halfway there. You are too!!

22. Well, thanks, dweller, I think...
50 is an incredible number. I don't feel it at all, so I must be in denial. I never had any children, and some friends say that if you do, you are more in tune with the aging process.

Oh hell, I feel like I'm 25. So that means I am celebrating the second anniversary of my 25th birthday.

Yippee!!

12. Look at it this way...
how disturbing would it be if your mother sent you something from Fredrick's of Hollywood or Victoria's Secret? Mom's like to think of their kids as asexual, no matter what their age. You can lounge around in your new pj's this winter, maybe sit in a chair all comfy and read with a cup of hot cocoa.

Happy Birthday!

29. I am not the hot cocoa type
I am definitely more Champagne and skimpy underwear.

And my mom knows it...heck, everything she knows she learned from me! And she's been happily married for over 20 years now...to a very sexy guy, who also happens to be my beloved stepfather. What a hunk!

I'm wearing my cat-print flannel pajamas as I write! I just had to share that. Of course, I bought them for myself, so I can lay around like a slob in the evenings and read and be cozy.

30. Well, I didn't suggest I wouldn't wear them....
But not TODAY, if you know what I mean. (Heck, I have to wash them anyway, to get the sizing chemicals out of the fabric.)

I'm sure that in the middle of February, I will be very happy to have them, and I will have forgotten the trauma of turning 50 by then....
right? RIGHT???????

I love red flannel- I feel comfy in it and it's easy to remove as necessary! Fifty is no big deal. And you are lucky to have a mom-and of course you will always be her baby, that's the way it goes-wrap yourself in that love along with the flannel and celebrate! Happy Birthday from upstate NY where red flannel pjs rule!

And she is super, even though we live far apart and I rarely see her. Yep, I'm her baby, and if she had her way, I'd still be 3 years old.

Thanks for reminding me.

31. Pictures, eh? You really want pictures?
It's way too warm in Seattle for flannel pjs. so you'll have to wait awhile. But, I'll get some film in the camera, for the eventuality when I don the cat-pjs. Now I just need to teach my cat to take a picture!!

35. They are from Serengeti online catalog
The brand is LaCera from China. They seem really cheap. I wouldn't wear them without a thorough washing on a bet. I am sure my mom thought they were better quality, but that happens with catalog sales, at least to me, all the time. Something looks great on paper on on the computer but sucks when you get it.
