My grandfather is going to pass away
in the next day or two. His renal failure and lung problems are just too much for him to overcome. It really hurts that he's so far away and I'm not going to get to say goodbye.

It's a loss for everyone--he's one of the premier art historians in the whole world--but mostly, he's just my grandfather and I already miss him terribly.

1. My Nana passed away 9-7-01
and we all dealt with it... it is very hard to say goodbye, especially when the one you say goodbye to is the one that molded you (or whatever fits). At least you have time to DO.

3. I'm sorry to hear that and I know it's painful for you.

Is your grandfather H.W. Janson? Or another art historian? Janson was the first who came to mind who might be the right age.

I still remember the deaths of my grandparents quite well, especially my grandmother who died in 1967. The good part is that I still remember her, and my other grandparents.

4. Sorry to hear
I lost my father almost 7 months ago (5-9-04) really without being able to say goodbye (even though I did talk to him 4 hours before he did pass away).

7. That's so sad you can't be with him to say goodbye. I'm sorry.
I know this sounds corny and if he's in an unconscious state it might seem useless to do this but I don't believe it is. The mind and the spirit still have an awareness on some level IMHO.

Call him. Have someone a nurse, a relative, who ever is there to answer the phone and have them place the phone on his pillow next to him and just talk to him. Tell him how much you love him and thank him for all your wonderful times together and talk to him about some of those good times.

It may feel funny at first but you can say goodbye to him without actually having to be right there with him and I really believe he will hear it in his heart. It works, I know.

Big hugs to you and your family sir_captain. Your Grandfather sounds like a wonderful man. Call him.

10. *hugs* Mine just passed two weeks ago. I didn't get to say goodbye
either, but even if I had I am not sure he would have known who I was. :(

Anyway, big *hugs and prayers* going out your way!
