Dish TV
Do you have it?
How do you like it?
Does rain interfere with signal?
How many TVs can you connect to one tuner?
Pros?
Cons?

I think I'm about to cut the cable now that I can get local channels on Dish.
Got a $29.99 special with one tuner and $5 a month for each additional tuner.
Thanks for comments.

1. Girlfriend has it...
... and heavy rain can interfere with the signal.

To me, the advantage is that it offers FSTV and LinkTV.

She has the 322 (I think) which uses one dish, two heads (for satellites 110 and 119) and one receiver.

The main TV is connected directly to the receiver, and the remote TV is independently controlled with a UHF remote. Not sure about the set-up for the 500 series.

6. 500 series works the same way
I've got 2 tv's hooked up with DVR. and in the living room I've got the HDTV unit.

I had it for 6 years in Ohio and liked it, but when I first moved to Florida I went w/ Direct TV, because Rupert Murdoch was trying to buy Dish. Instead, he bought DirecTV, so the next day I was back with Dish.

3. I worked for DirecTV,
Whilst I hunted for a programmming job after being laid off a year ago (finally found one - yay), and it looks better to me. A lot more prices for just a few bucks more.

As for rain interfering with dish-type cable, you can put Rain-X on the dish or even a plastic shopping bag over the dish to help minimize the problem.

4. Like it...
I like it.
Got the local channels - which DirecTV didn't.
You can put two tvs on one "receiver".
Rain doesn't seem to be too big of a problem, though I'm usually watching it rain so I'm not watching the TV at that time (I know - goofy...)
+The DVR is a pretty good deal, if you get the receiver free. ($5/month)
-The way you turn on the TV and receiver using one remote is clunkier than I thought it was with DirecTV.
+ There is a item on Dish - using Dish Home - that during special times of the year, you can view the video of six different stations (when the Olympics were on, the six channels showing the Olympics were there) and then you just put the cursor over the channel you want to listen to. Press another button would get you to that channel.
+ Weather for multiple cities can be programmed. Favorite sports teams and their scores and news too.
+ My receiver has it where I can view the current channel while viewing the channel guide.
- Going into Dish Home takes a bit of time, like waiting for a website to pop up.

5. Here it goes:
Do you have it?

Yes, I have DirecTV

How do you like it?

I absolutely love it, crystal clear picture and so many package options.

Does rain interfere with signal?

Yes, but only for a few minutes at a time, then it comes right back. And this only happens during really bad thunderstorms.

How many TVs can you connect to one tuner?

I don't know, we have two boxes for two TV's.

Pros?

Great picture, solid service, NO MORE CABLE.

Cons?

Expensive, we pay like $90 a month. But it doesn't sound like you'll have a problem with the price.

7. Thanks. One other question: Politics
I remember that either Dish or Direct is (I think?) a Rupert Murdoch operation. Anybody know?
Not a real biggie, cause my local cabel monopoly is WAY RW. A year ago they dumped Comedy Central and Food Net for 2 more Jesus channels.

8. That would be DirecTV
They are something like 30% owned by Murdoch which is the reason my hubby wants to change to DISH. The one problem I have with changing is that Dish doesn't offer News World International from Canada and I believe one or two other channels that we spend a fair amount of time on. But pricewise, they seem pretty comparable.

My question is how is customer service with DISH? Our service has been pretty decent with DirecTV and as of this moment remains local. If I have a problem with my DISH system I don't want to have to call India or Pakistan.
