I eat there at least twice a week.

I get the #3 combo w/ #1 burger + ketchup, tater tots and a Dr. Pepper. Occasionally I'll get the foot long coney + onions. It's great fast food.

16. If only they'd ditch that stupid commercial
campaign and learn to make a real limeade. Hint, real limeades don't start with lemon-lime soda.

But, their cherry lime slushes and cherry vanilla DPs are great.

79. I looooooooooooooove Sonic!
I hardly ever eat there anymore, but those breakfast burritos are sooo good. Any of the burgers. The Toasters. Those yummy, yummy blended floats! (I'm normally a diet pop drinker if I have any pop, but a blended Coke float using REAL Coke is just like a little piece of heaven.)

I love Sonic. It may be time for a treat soon.

so their workers will always have at least one predictable day off every week. I remember when I was a child (in the 80's) everything was closed on Sunday's expect for the small general stores. I liked it better that way.

Boston area. One is the Burlington Mall, and my friend remembered it from when he was in the Army stationed at a base in NC. It's the only fast-food place I enjoy, rather than go to reluctantly when there's no other choice at the moment.

When my friend proposed to me (w/out us ever dating) at 1:00 in the morning we spent the next like 4 hours at S'n'S deciding how to tell everyone what the hell we had just done. That was seven years ago! We're not married yet, but who the hell needs marriage - we're perfect!

been around the midwest since the 30s. Don't sell hamburgers-steakburgers, which are cooked to order. And you can have rye and other bread for a bun plus your choice of condiments. Their chili is wonderful, and their shakes are made with real ice cream. They still use china dishes, and have expanded their menu to include salads and chicken dishes.

105. I used to work there when I was a teenager.
You want to know how the chili sauce is made. They cut holes in the lid of a big white bucket and put the half-used ketchup bottles upside-down in the holes to drain. They keep the bucket in the walk-in. It takes about a month to fill up, sometimes longer. Then they add some junk to it, I'm not sure what---but that's not the disgusting part.

The disgusting part is that where I worked, the bucket was always being pulled out of the walk-in so we could get to the salads and other stuff, and being left out. Well, right outside the walk-in was also where trash was kept before being brought out, so flies and gnats that would gather by the trash would end up in the bucket.

So the chili sauce was made of a layer of old ketchup, a layer of flies and gnats, a layer of old ketchup, a layer of flies and gnats, and then some spices and junk.

Yum!!

:P

In my town, as far as burger joints go, I only have easy access to McDonald's, A&W, Burger King, Dairy Queen, and I think that's it.

Not sure where the nearest Wendy's is, but there're are plenty in Vancouver. I had one of their bacon-fat double-patty burger specials the last time I was there. Thoroghly disgusting; I haven't been back.

I rarely eat fast food, but the only place I like is Harvey's. You choose your condiments, and how much you want on your burger, so if I want 10 slices of tomato, or 1/2 cup of hot banana peppers, I can. Their pickles are to die for.

But I do miss the Garneau neighbourhood, the University area, and the river valley. Especially during an Indian summer.

Best Side Orders: Popeyes.

Best Burgers: Sonic, In 'n' Out, Whataburger. McD's in the middle of the pack.

Best Breakfast: McD's, IMHO. Sonic and Whataburger's breakfast burritos kick ass too though, the pharm reps are bringing that shite to our hospital lounges all the time.

is still there on Garnet, although the businesses there change all the time. The one thing I don't get is that P.B. has only one all night thing going which is Denny's on the beach, which is totally lame. Any decent greasy spoon diner alternative would kick Denny's ass.

Limeades at Sonic suck. They use lemon-lime soda as the base. On your way to LA, find a Braums (http://www.braums.com/StoreLocator.asp) and order a cherry limeade there - so much better. OMG, no comparison at all.

Incidentally, both Sonic and Braums are Oklahoma based companies.

Like El Pollo Loco, Rubio's, Sbarro, Buckhorn, Subway, Quiznos, and Del Taco. Ya know places that sell healthier food than lard soaked potato pieces and ground cow meat mixed with cow feces, brian, and eye balls.

BTW, McDonalds and TriCon Global(KFC, Long John Silvers, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut) are Nazi party donators (I also heard Wendy's and Carl's Jr. might be there too)

109. Jack In The Box never caught on in VA
Edited on Thu Dec-09-04 09:35 AM by ZombyWoof
Back in the early 80's when I lived in Va Beach, they opened a Jack In The Box... it was boarded up within its first year.

Va Beach used to (maybe they still do) have a burger joint called "Wimpy's" (named for the Popeye character) and they were the only fast-food burger joint that sold beer.

Skipper's (a fish joint) based in WA state and western-located, sells beer too. But Ivar's is the best fish fast-food joint.

I avoid fast food whenever possible - maybe catch something on a long road trip - but it is supremely poisonous crap.

They are OK, but nothing to rave about. Their burgers are razor thin. You have to double or triple just to know there is meat on the burger. They stuff the burgers sideways into these pouches so you can't get them out. Their fries are soggy and half-cooked. I just don't get it.

119. For the Love of Pete - No Culver's?!?
Midwest fast food. Butterburgers are the best. They have walleye. Great custard.

However, in Chicago there is a chain called Portillo's. It is amazing. Italian beef and burgers, etc. They sell beer, too.

147. OH....YEAH....
Culvers! Beloved Culvers! The only one that could replace Sonic as #1 in my book. I first ate at a Culvers in WI about ten years ago. When I went back home to MN for a month this past August, I discovered that Culvers had moved right into the neighborhood! I ate there twice while visiting. So. Good.

pork tenderloin sandwich is excellent. But their double butter is a show stopper.

124. I may cry now.
Having lived in the UK for the past several years, I would give my eye teeth (if anyone would take 'em) for a Sonic cheeseburger. Oh, man, and some tator tots & onion rings.

The lack of cheeseburgerosity was the biggest social adjustment I had to make when I moved. It still gets to me on a regular basis.

Just letting out a secret though:

Eat great even late is the biggest advertising sham ever. I have horror stories that you wouldn't want to even think about that take place after 11 PM. I close 5 days a week, so i've become desensitized.

184. Actually,
Meat that is burnt goes into the chili less often at night. You see, we put the meat that is too burnt to be eaten on a burger in the chili, because it doesn't matter when it's in chili. But during late night, we typically close with 4 people. One of them is the manager, who typically does a lot of paperwork. One of them does back register, and is also in charge of washing dished. Lots of dishes late night, since everything is getting washed from the day. Then there is another person who closes dining room, vacuums carpet, mops, does bathrooms, in the three hours between when dining room and drive thru closes. Our dining room people are usually pretty slow and kind of dumb, so it takes them a while, and it's more like having half a person. That leaves one person to run grill, make sandwiches, fries, and handing out the food at the second window. This person also is usually helping clean the floors in the back, along with the half person already mentioned. So, ladies and gentleman, in case you ever wondered why your late night food was so bad, it's that we're expected to do so much other stuff, that we don't have the time we really should to make sure we're serving decent food.

I've seen raw meat dropped on the floors and picked up, people make sandwiches after being on grill, where they touch raw meat, and not use gloves, I've seen 4 of our junior burgers stacked on top of each other to mimic our "double" quarter pounder, i've seen someone accidentally "sweat" into a hamburger while making it, i've seen people take bacon out of the trash at 12.58, two minutes before close, and put it on a sandwich, so we wouldn't have to cook more bacon, we pretty much never use gloves to make sandwiches after 10, the oldest fries I've ever served were probably about an hour old, and the same goes for meat, and once I served meat directly out of the pan we put burnt meat in we use for chili after it had been sitting there for maybe 5 minutes, but that was an especially rude costomer, I believe he swore at us. Oh, and some managers let us smoke in the building after 10.

It doesn't pay to act rude to fast food workers, because we always get the last laught. If you're nice to us, we will return the favor.

As they say in our business, have a nice night. :-)

PS, I should mention that this is only late night. We actually run a good store during the day, and I get food there quite often.
